did you take your favourite cd with you to listen to on the monitors?........because if u check that on several monitors you'll see which one is the one for you, reguardless of the name of the monitor.

Ns 10 are "the" reference monitors to hear your music on a cheap system.

But if you are asking if there are better once, I wouldn't know where to start because there are too many.

the ns-10 are maybe the most flat ones

it's a nearfield monitors and99% of the mix done on nearfield monitors.

also you can see them at any studio , if it prodigy's one or britney spears perfomance

everywhere you can find them

of course i heard them a lot and heard every music style on them

It is good to have the NS 10 together with other pair of monitors. In big studios they always have the NS10 or other speakers of the kind that cuts hard on the bass ( NS10 doesnt go below 80hz if I am not mistaken ) to see how the sound will come out on cheap Hi Fi or a TV for example. But the main use of this monitor is a reference. I believe that most of the work should be done on monitors that go down as much as possible and are clear and precise ( such as Dynaudio for instance ) and to have a 'shitty' reference pair to make sure I am at the right place soundwise every time I choose to check.           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

very right Yuli
although the ns10 doesnt go below 80hz you can hear a very big amount of low freq's - first time i heard it i said it is not real.they have pretty much bass and they are really good

it all depends on the kinda music u making...
its true that the below 80Hz cant be heard..
but I guess some of the best mixes,, have been done with the NS10M's as the first refrence then the awsome dynaudio's M4 or 8's...then proberbly the car stereo & the rest of de mediums u want ur music to be heard on..
well Te_nTe..If u seen a pair of NS10's & wanna buy it ...u might have to get to them soon coz the might just get into sales extinction...I guess u know the NS10 r out of production..(what a loss)
Initially when I heard the 10's ..(wierd sounding)...r these the ones ...u know quite a few swear by...but I guess in a while ur gonna move with the everywhere u go or ur lost...

Hi

In my opinion the NS-10 sound like shit.

They just were reference for a long time because everybody knew how "wrong" they sounded...

I wouldn't recommend them.

Bonji is absolutely right.. the ns-10 are good to hear how it sounds on cheap speakers...

so you could go for cheap speakers anyway ;-)

there are many good speakers around.. just take some CDs and take a listen to different ones.. trust your ears..

I use Dynaudio BM6A.. and recommend them
(i posted this so many times here.. )

All the best

Te_nTe:

NS10's do sound 'not very nice' to say the least. The thing is, that only if your mix is very good, it will have a good sound on the NS10.. So that is the reason for Prodigy and the likes using them, BUT as a reference monitor.. They had another pair or two pairs of speakers. In most of the professional studios u go, u will see the NS10, as a REFERENCE monitors.. They are very good for mixing as long there is another pair around           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

Hi

Some seem to think that the fact that any band uses a monitor makes this monitor better..

Those of you who maybe had a look into some prof studios maybe know, that the NS-10 are often used.
Ok so far!

But those of you who have also talked to people running such studios or better listened to NS-10s certainly know that the NS-10 have very unneutral, mid orientated, even nasal sound.

And that the fact that every sound engeneer KNOWS how NS-10 sound, and how he has to make a mix sound on NS-10 makes them refernence.

NOT THEIR SOUND IS REFERENCE, BUT THE FACT THAT EVERYBODY KNOWS THEM!!!

Thats a very important fact, since in the meantime manufacturer, also Yamaha, knows much better how to make a speaker sounding "good"

The Problem is that a lot of people just don't understand anything from speakers, and don't trust their ears, and just run after what others use, without knowing the background.

Today, studio reference is certainly Genelec 1031.
NS-10 aera is over (fortunately).
They are maybe useflu for vocal orientated sound, because of the good mids.. but for electronic music.......
Think ybout it yourself..
no bass, lots of mids.. is that waht one wants for el-music?
