Hello... this is an *extremely* informal invite to all artists/producers to send me some tracks for a *freeware* CD project I plan to do for this year's TEKNIVAL...
Before you read on you may wish to explore this link to find out what the event is about:
http://freetekno.toronto.on.ca/ (click 2004 Teknival)
Here are the main points from the website regarding what Teknival is:
-a FREE festival of like minded people coming together to party, dance & unify in dissent.
-a celebration of DIY attitudes.
-an experiment in non-hierarchical organization and an attempt to prove the merits of a money free economy.
-an action of reclaiming space, utilizing public land that should be used by the public, but which often just sits there, unappreciated and unused.
-the creation of an autonomous zone. A space where the normal rules of society (both social and economic) are not applicable, and a new system is put in place by it’s inhabitans.
-an open invitation to all, regardless of lifestyle to get involved & MAKE SOME FUCKING NOISE!!!
---
So, what do I have to do with this? Well this is the fun part: next to nothing! I'm playing on some stages at some times (not sure where or when - just bringing records) and I am also planning to take some music and burn like 50 to 100 copies of a free CD to give out to people (with donations under $5 accepted to cover materials if that comes up). We'll probably have a cover designed, but please understand - this is nothing formal or "professional", just good promotion for the artists that make it. I extend this invitation to the community here on isratrance cuz I just know there's plenty of talented new artists who might appreciate the exposure, and who knows, maybe some of you out there even find the ideals behind this festival to be worthy of contribution. I know I do.
On the legal side, the music will be released under a 'some rights reserved' kind of license (see this site for more: http://creativecommons.org/ ) essentially the music will be *free to copy*, but not to profit from! Chances are we'll put the whole thing online in mp3 somewhere after the festival... anyhow, the main thing will be to promote the artists featured on the compilation - so be sure to send over your web URL, email addy, or other contact info when you send some tracks. But again, and I stress, there is no money involved and your tracks will become free to be copied!
Also - and I hope this goes without saying - everyone is quite welcome to make the trek out to this festival... either just to party, or play some music, or put up some art, or whatever you like! I have some contacts with various stages if any djs/artists wish to actually play, but again - the whole thing is based on the free ideal, so there would be no payment for performers of any calibre.
If you are interested, send me an email - basilisk(at)ektoplazm.com [spamguarded; replaced (at) with @] or contact me on MSN - basilisk2004(at)hotmail.com
All styles welcome but I'd like for the music to be different from the norm - more underground... no full-on copycat stuff please, but aside from that I'll take anything (prog, goa, chill, abstract, breaky, ANYTHING!)... hopefully you can have it nicely mastered when it is delivered, but this isn't totally necessary. I'd see what I can do with some local help if we need it...
P.S. Also, though I doubt anyone is really aware, I was running a record label here but this is not the case right now - I won't be taking credit for anything other than compiling the CD. This is just a small project I felt like taking upon myself to have something to contribute to the festival goers from the psytrance community worldwide.
Peace. |
