novation zero SL midi assignment problems

i picked up a novation remote zero SL today and am having a problem that's driving me bat shit crazy. my host software is FL7. i made sure to install all of the software, drivers, and installed the FL studio template.
my problem is this does not seem to learn midi correctly. for instance, if i right click a sampler's volume control and try to assign it to slider 1, i may have to repeat this a few times and finally it will learn it. then i will learn slider 2 and slider 1 stops working.
another thing is sometimes when i learn a knob, FL will assign it to the completely wrong control. just now i tried assigning a knob to a mixer insert's volume, well it assigned it, but to the wrong insert.
sometimes the midi messages go haywire, and go in the wrong direction.
has anyone experienced these types of problems? what's going on? did i get a bunk piece of hardware? all i want to do is assign controls to the knobs and sliders 
edit: just noticed more problems. i (tried to) assigned a few knobs to mixer insert volumes, and when i twist one it adjusts a few parameters. sometimes it randomly starts playing the track/selection too. i have no idea what the hell is going on with this thing...  |

i seem to have fixed it, i believe it was the FL template. i made a blank template with empty knobs and sliders, and it seems to be working fine now.
i will check out fl8, thanks. |
