I've been offered a second-hand supernova II keyboard version with extension (total 36 voices) for ~1000e, and I'm strongly considering it.
Do you guys have any experiences with it? Something to be aware of?
What are its specialities (other than slave sync osc's, double saw and the famous liquid filters)? How is the keyboard and knobs?
Most importantly how does it compare to synths like JP-8080 (I had one previously), Virus C/TI, NL2/3 and such? Is the price somewhat okay?
I'd mainly use it for leads and pads, maybe some fx too. It would probably complement nicely my MonoMachine and MicroQ.
I haven't been able to test it out yet. I'd like to first know if the deal is even worth considering (there are some economical issues to be cleared )...
Any thoughts would be welcome (but do not recommend software instead, please ) |

its a great synth capable of prety much everything!
i like it more then the jp 8080 and the nords but its a matter of taste!
but i think 1000e is a little expensive! but i dont know how much the extension costs so it might just be a bairgain!
i had nova and ks synths and i was more than happy with em!

hi
i got the nova too and it's a wonderfull machine. the nova 2 is much the same quality but with more features.
i think it compares to the virus a/b in modulation.

thanks for your replies.
here in finland jp8080 is something like 700-800e, so in comparision little over 1000e for quality(?) keys and 36 polyphony is justifiable, I think. Or am I just trying to justify the price because I want the synth so much?... damn.
SNII Pro (which this basically is) seems to be hard-to-find nowadays. I looked ebay, sonicstate, harmonycentral and prepal but couldn't come up with one clear price for the synth. The seller says that it's in a mint condition, and has never been gigged with it. |

i think 1000e is too much for it. not that it isnt a good synth, but because you can find it cheaper, i think.
there is a nova user group mailling list and i think the listed prices are better. look in the yahoo users groups to find it.

I think 1000 euros for a SN2 KBD with 36 voices is fair. SN2 sounds something like an Oberheim in pads and strings, and the OSC section is very complex, even when compared to Virus B/C. I mean, there are a lot of parameters in order to give a precise and powerful control about the waveform genereated on OSCs (you got virtual osc sync for each OSC, you can filter the waveform before the Filter section, there is a VCO drift and much much more on the OSC section). However, without doubt (at least for me), the filter on Virus C is much better than those on SN2. Even so, the Filter is amazing, liquid (?) and the HPF is very nice for psytrance. Don't forget de vocoder with 40 bands (unfortunately, there aren't much parameters for playing here...)
The effects section are great (distortion, delay, comb filter etc. You can find this comb filter on Micro-Q, where you can modulate it alot from several sources. But on SN2, it only works like a effect and you cannot modulate it. But, its nice and rocks.
The reverb effect sucks. Its a joke, IMHO.
The arpeggiator is amazing, much much more powerful than those on Virus C (you got a lot of control and can send arpeggios through the MIDI OUT). The most powerful arpeggiator allows to Micro-Q and Q, of course (I don't know the Virus TI, so, my comments doesn't cover this one).
I think the SN2 and Virus C together are the Class A setup for any Pro producers.

thanks for the info sonik_akb. As sy000321 instructed, I looked for the prices in the yahoo groups. No luck though (maybe I just can't find) except one message mentioning price of $800-$1000. In euros it's less. However, didn't know if they we're talking about 24 voice version only. So I guess 1000e isn't that bad. Will negotiate about it (I still need to conjure the cash ).
Thanks
