Has anyone actually used one of these? how good are they? I've also heard that they are the 'clone' of the TR-808, is that true? Is it worth getting one of theses?

Hope you guys can help me with this

Cheers

I hardly would recommend to buy today hardware drum machines, maybe if you play live or need it for DJ'ing. Otherwise go for software. There's no justification for preferring the Hardware on Software. Even the new Waldorf attack rack was based on VST instrument that was released before. Reason2 should fulfill all your wishes. BTW some of the older sample based drum machines contained samples that were sampled in 22/32 Khz sampling rate. Almost all of the software drum machines today use 44.1Khz samples with musc superior quality. BTW the original TR808 was drum synthesizer. All of the sounds except the HH were synthesized by the machine. Which gave the machine very authentic sound.

I'm not sure about it but i heard somewhere that it's sound was sampled rathered than synthesized.
What do you mean? The TR-808 does not use wavetable synthesis. In what way isn't the hi-hat synthesised?

I agree with software over hardware. Here's some VSTi suggestions

ErsDrums
http://www.bostreammail.net/ers/ersdrums.html

Drumatic
http://www.e-phonic.com/products/drumatic.html

Both are free. They are only for PC though. I'm also pretty sure that they use synthesis and are not sample based.

Also work with whatever synths you have. They can make great drum sounds as well. Try this link on info related to this:

Also save your money for those high end hardware processors and FX. Cause they are worth it.           It's moving so fast, it's standing still.
