send to groups instead..
only put things on it if u really hav to or if and wen youv learnt why to,(demos, idea of sound etc) b4 mastering..
take them off wen send to mastering
udidnt get a reply because people assume you should kno that regardless of your experience.. its called arogant people looking down at you for not knowing..
i pitty the kids... anyways..yeh as sed
no offence but, if your asking for settings then your not ready to,because there isnt any,as all mixes r different ..
focus on a good mix..then cant go wrong
do sub channels instead
told smoker the same

As Jizy said. don't put anything on the master. If you don't know, you won't be able to control it and it will most likely sound weird.
By the time you 'll be able to make a good mix, you ll know more about mastering and what to do or not to do.

A much used mastering chain - as I was told during an Ableton course - is EQ -> multiband compressor -> limiter.
I use it to some extent, but I'm aware that I do this mostly to cover up for inadequate mixing. So I agree largely with Jizy & Supergroover here.

Ask any serious mastering engineer about multiband compressor and all will say : it's used on less than 0.1% of jobs.
If you want to export a little louder your track : tweak your mix, put a limiter on master channel, but no need to slam it or it will destroy everything. http://www.storm-mastering.com |

if things get multiband treatment in groups
(if needed) then there is just no need for anythin on master.. except from your limiter while u mix....
go for the multiband limiter while mix instead... should b all...

indeed a good mix is 80% of the work.
about the use of multi-band dynamics stuff... it depends on the material: if you get a nicely crafted mix, it's already balanced and the dynamics are controlled throughout the spectrum - that's what a good mix is. in such cases, no need for multi-band compressors, gates or/and limiters; but in other situations I can't see why you'd dispense with such a tool.
easy to screw things up if you don't know what you're doing, wouldn't be the case with any serious engineer though. and I know more then a dozen that do use multi-band compressors on mastering.
in most situations: blame the person and not the tools. tools are great in the right hands.
