Rename .midi to .mid and then you go, mate.           Making what you want with what you have

Thank`s majistik, I will try this right now just to see how it works...but is possible to do that with fruitloops? Right now i am into learn how to make loops and samples..

Do people here do this? export melodies etc from midi files to use as sample? Is it common?

Last, i m not in cubase yet, planning to hang around with it only when i got a new lap, for now i use FL, can someone recommend me a FREE and simple but good (:)) program to edit midifiles??

Thats all folks

I have also started with FL.
you will at some point see that its very limited as your creativity drives you.

give a try to cubase. it took me 2 days to gain understand of basic operation. you should do it you will never regret it.

you can import midi to FL and then asign a vst to it and play it. I cant remember the exact procedure.

and no, people usually dont take other peoples midis and use them (unless its a remix). I fyou plan to compose then write you own melodys in the FL piano roll.

However, download as many midi files as you can that fits to your musical style and learn for them.

Midi today is edited with:
b. piano roll (cubase FL).

cubase and espacially fl(since version 6) can handle audio but they are midi based sequencers.

c. tabs and notes as in guitar pro.          Israel rules!

I want to start with cubase only when i get a more powerful notebook...i feel that my actual cant even handle FL. Also i Feel that i need to learn a lot before starting to learn cubase you know, even FL that seems to bea simple program is a bit complicated to me but i m just starting using it, before i was only reading stuffs and etc, music theory and started learn keyboard (hell ya, long way) maybe with more practice time with FL things get more bright. For now I want to learn about midi and sampling, if you have some tip i will appreciate.

So I opened the midi file with the guitar pro demo, but i coundt the structures of the songs, just a bunch of squares, you are saying that with the piano roll on FL i can see all the music structure and edit it?

Last what i was saying about using midi files, lets say that i have a rock or classical music that i like, can i get the midi from it open it and use the melodie on my production, or edit it a little bit to fit more the music etc...is this right?

after you press a square you see on the big side of the windows the notation of that specific instrument.

Yes, Midi file is a file with notes(DO,RE,MI...) and not audio (thats why they are so small). notes can be desplied either in the classical you see notes or either in a piano roll.

Midi file has chanels and each channel presents diffrent insruments.
Windows has built in sounds for every instruments (guitar, piano, horn). if you take the notes and put them in FL and assign to them the right sounds with vst or samplers you will get the same results.

You will need to get your hands on the midi file. Creating it is a lot of work.
and Yes,you can but midi files only consist notation data and therefore sound wierd and robotic.
