Hi folks!

I'm currently working on a Liveact, and it's going well (you can listen to some stuff here: http://www.myspace.com/djhuman )..

What I still need though is a notebook..

I have seen one from Toshiba, which seems to be good, but I heard their core 2 duo has some sort of problems with the fan and causes glitches regularly (which would be very unpleasant during a liveact..).

The one I've seen is a "Centrino Duo", so no core 2.. Is that reliable? It's called " Toshiba Satellite A100-779, Core Duo T2050, 15.4 WXGA, 2GB"

I couldn't find this particular one on their website, so here's the description from the store:

Intel Centrino Duo Mobiltechnology with Intel Core Duo Processor T2050 (1.66GHz), 533MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache

Mobile Intel 945PM Express

15.4", TruBrite

WXGA (1280 x 800)

2x 1024MB DDR2, max. 4GB, 2 Slots available

100GB S-ATA, 5400rpm

ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 with 128MB VRAM (up to 256MB Hypermemory)

DVD Super Multi (Double Layer) Drive

WLAN 802.11, 10/100 LAN, Modem, Bluetooth

4x USB 2.0, Firewire, TV-Out (S-Video), VGA, Audio, RJ-11, RJ-45, 1x PC-Card Typ II

Multimedia Bar with 6 Easy Keys (Internet Browser, Rewind, Play, Stop, Forward, Express Media Player for instant-on entertainment)

Li-Ionen Akku

Best regards,
Human

Just a word of advice, if you can afford it get a core 2 duo (make sure its core 2 duo & not core duo) 2.0 GHZ processor with 4MB L2 Cache & a 633MHz FSB..

This coupled with 1GB ram & a 7200rpm hard disk will be powerful enough for all your live & studio needs..

As far as manufacturers go personally i've used pretty much all generation Dell laptops (since Pentium III days) & never really had a problem with any of them..

I've got a friend with a double processor, dont know if its core duo or core 2 duo, with 3 fans and the problem is the pc gets too hot and automaticly shuts down. that would be even more unpleasent. but you solve this problem by lifting up your pc a little so fresh air can blow in.           Super Banana Sauce http://www.soundcloud.com/knocz

ok.. thanks for your advice.. somebody else already recommended dell.. how about this one:

http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?b=&c=ch&cs=chdhs1&kc=N4XENT03&l=de&oc=N02647&rbc=N02647&s=dhs&sbc=cgdhsftdppnotebook3

(the second one)

i'm pretty sure that an Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Prozessor T7200 (2,0 GHz, 4 MB L2-Cache, 667 MHz FSB) will be enough.
but how about 1024 MB 533 MHz Dual-Channel DDR2 SDRAM (2 x 512)? is that enough for live performance?

the problem with the heat could be very unfortunate in a hot club, couldn't it?           ° °

I've used mine for 8 hours straight at parties without any problems..I guess knocz is talking about a desktop?

The old pentium 4 processors used to get heated up but the core 2 duo's are really quiet and efficient..

As for your question about the ram..That will come in handy if you're using sample based instruments like stylus, atmosphere etc..Minimum 1 GB should be enough if you can afford it go for 2 GB..

The processor you pointed out (T7200) is the one to get..           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

Core 2 Duo's are the most efficient laptop processors to date. There are laptop cooling stations that are essentially a flat sureface with a fan that you place underneath for additional cooling.

For example:
