Hi guys, after many nightmares i decided, i'll make an orrible step but i've to do...i'll sell my powerbook g4 and i'll switch back to window :'-(( i know, maybe is a mistake but a macbook pro is too much for me, and a powerbook 1,67 is too slow for me know, i don't have so much cash so..toshiba seems to be the right choice and i'll buy a c2d T7200 2gb ram do you think is enoght? If you have any ideas about other marks tell me please but i read many 3d here and i think is the best one, sony vaio are too expensive, however with 1500 euro now i can buy a really good notebook isn't it? My questin is: i've a motu ultralite (maybe she will miss powerbook much more then me) and now i've connected to my firewire800, notebooks don't have 800, have only 400, the problem is that for examle toshiba notebook has a little firewire 400 (i think with 4 pin), powerbook have the one with 6 pin, and i'm sure that my ultralite will not be alimentaded from this one, so somebody know if there is a solution for this problem? I need a notebook with a 6 pin fw400, does exist? thanks a lot guy!

You can get a 6pin to 4pin cable for your soundcard..

The only difference is that it won't be bus-powered anymore so you'll have to use your ac-adaptor..

I think you can also get a 4 to 6 pin adaptor that you can plug in to your laptop..Then you'll still be able to power it with your laptop..

can i ask you some another question without open another 3d?
I think i'll buy a toshiba or a dell inspiron 6400 , i read something about firewire, i want to keep on unsing my ultralite with one of this, there will be problem? for example drivers...is there here somebody with motu ultralite and notebook (except mac users)?
another question: now dell sell laptop with OS window media centre, is this right for music production or i have to buy XP?
I'll use cobase sx, does it work good with a dual core? I know ableton 5 doesn't work fine with dual core, only the 6 version isn't? thanks a lot bye!

I'm using a Dell inspiron 6400 with a RME Fireface 400 without any problems..So hopefully the Ultralite should be fine as well..

The new core 2 duo processors are great you'll have no problems using it with cubase..

As for which operating system, my new laptop came with Vista but i installed XP on it again since i needed the network features..           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

first of all, thanks a lot S-cube you've been very very clear!
For Zefer, i spoke just today with the commercial dell by telephone, very professional, you can choose the configuration you want just like a desktop, if you don't see for example on site the model with HD 7200 you can telephone and they will set up your noteb. with that, in italy they sell with XP yet just because they want wait before introduce vista (low compatibility, problems with drivers etc..).

@ 5-ht
No worries dude!

@ zafer

I bought mine from http://www.dell.ch

Its your choice which operating system you get, since i already had Windows XP i ordered mine with vista..

To be honest i just played around with it for 20 mins & then re-installed XP since i need it to access the network in my university..

Vista looks fancy but as 5-ht said there's still some problems with some drivers as microsoft wants everyone to write new drivers from scratch for it..

I probably think you're better off running your DAW on XP, Vista will probably need more memory & cpu to run all the fancy gadgets..
