Random thread here, just wanted to see what other people thought on this topic/what artists do (I'm also bored at work).
I've always thought it logical that if you have a track that is the same name as the album it is in, this should be the "best" (according to you) track on the album. Do any artists actually do this? I always find myself listening to the track that is the same name of the album first on saiko and psyshop - does anyone else do this? Not saying this is a good or bad idea, just something I noticed that I do/think about. It seems like it would make sense to have that track be "the" defining track of the album if it has the same name.
Dunno, discuss if you wish...

I just think they take the track that has the most interesting title for an album. |

it is logical indeed.. but I dont have tendency to play that track first, album should be played from start to end, thats logical too..

Yeah I guess I just assumed that the track with the same title as the album would be the "defining" track of the album - why else would it be named the same. I don't judge albums at all by this metric, I just noticed it was something I do/assume so I was wondering if any artists actually did this. I have found that for myself a lot of the times the track with the same name as the title of a compilation tends to be my favorite, so I correlated that to being the artists/composer's favorite as well.
As the title says, not that it matters

yeah, you do what your instinct tells u but if the artist didnt follow the logic of giving name of the album to the best track than u might have misconception of that musical piece.. usually in the days of goa, I had tendency to judge albums based on the quality of the sixth or seventh track.. cause on goa albums that was the best track usually, the peak of the album, like the 6 minute main build up in goa tracks.. now albums tend to be less logical..

Yeah I should have said that I assume this, but I don't really hold the artist(s) to it. If the track with the same name as the title isn't the best in my opinion it doesn't affect whether I buy an album/comp.
I guess I figured there had to be some significance if you are giving a track the same name as an album, seems that this track should stick out in some way/the artist would expect that track to stick out to people. I actually threw a Space Buddha track in a mix last night and realized it was my favorite one on the album and also the same name as the album ("No Shields" 2008). Made me smile ->

word. i do most of my focused listening in the car on commutes to work. so it takes a while for track titles to even come into play. i just put the first track on and zone out until i get to work.

thats living up to expectations situation.
try to think in the next cd u hear , that track number 4 is the ultimate track u ever heard , it will sound abit better then if u listened to it without i said anything.
ps my 'soundscool' track is also the first in the album , and defintly intended it to be the first one you listen to , because its first not cause of the name. best track ended up to be 5 , 9 , 11 (out of 14) ... when i made the album i thought 5 is just a filler and that track 7 is the blast , now i cant listen to that track 7 anymore at all its way too noisy intresting to look back www.sattelbattle.com

That's not the case at all. I have plenty of albums that I don't like a track that is the same as the title. I used that Space Buddha one as an example because I know a lot of people that feel the same way about that track, so it was kind of amusing. Like the newest FFT album, I hate the track that is the same as the title, but love some others. It doesn't affect my decision about what track I like best at all (as I said before I don't hold artists to this metric when listening to an album).
The main point of this pointless thread was just to find out if there was ANY purpose behind artists giving a track the same name as the album it is in, as well as seeing what other people thought. http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound
