Suggestions of other metal bands? Trance artists that have metal riffs in their tunes? Getting that kinda sound on live recordings?
Elaborate please.

or just sample the real thing. I vagely remember Cowboys From Hell LP, having some drum parts where you should be able to get the kick on its own and extract it for your tunes.
The texture of Pantera's kicks is nothing like a raw synthetic kick...not judging as I haven't tried using it in a trance tune though. Could work. If it does, send it to Talamasca.

The Russian style can sometimes be with double bass!
Of course you can do a fusion....
or a remix...
Though i think you got a lot more weight in plain psytrance kick and bass.. In metal
there is much more room for solo lead guitars and the singer.... the bass and kick never get that depth that is typical for psytrance...
but maybe i havent heard so much new metal

yeah its cool
but fear factory by far has better double-bass going on imo...
anywayz we use the bassline for the 16th in trance.. welcome to 'dark'.. same old rock pattern only change the instruments
1/16 = kick
1/8 offbeat = snare
1/4 = guitar / bass
1/16 = hihat
1/8 offbeat = bass
1/4 = kick
and offcourse many variations of that

lol, I often take breaks from making music by playing music. I play electric bass(and i play blues mainly).
I've often wondered if i'd be able to play bass for a trance track, would be tight but i think it would be do-able.
Its certainly easy enough for hip-hop.
But i think you'd have to play like a demon to keep up with a psy tune. |

@ pagan... the idea to play bass in psy sounds fun but is kinda boring and monotonous(not much progression - no room for improv)... n u knw better (u play the blues).
my personal preference though - psytrance being a ONE man show... master of puppets... |

A live bass doesnt really make alot of sense to me personally. The bass needs to be really really tight and is therefor best taken from a synth or sample. Playing live guitar would be nice though if you can really play the guitar. (no powerchords etc )
A live drummer is also an option, but than leave out the kickdrum and the snare, because these need to be 100% tight as well imho. |

James Reipas play trance using mostly live instruments. Although I like Suomi trance very much, I think James Reipas are boring.
Most electronic music is built from monotoneus repeatitive riffs and the small variations and nuances (filter sweeps, etc.).
I think it makes more sense using synths in live music (Pink Floyd, Star One, Alan Parson's Project etc.).
I play the electric guitar, bass, and some drums. I think i'll use bass in a track but it will be more funky than psy, and the guitar in trance thing is a bit overdone, maybe i'll play it funky as well (I used to play metal and funk/rock in several bands).
I like to listen to almost any kind of music though, and get inspiration from everything.
Oh, and pantera rocks \m/
especially Cowboys and Vulgar.
and they sound pretty 'metallic', as if they use synths.
Try listening to 'Rust in Peace' by Megadeth.
Some things there will blow your mind... |

the double bass could work well in the breaks with a real bass drum |

You mean like the one note dark psy bass line that hammers 16ths? Only with one kick accented on the beat? |
