I have gone through all of the dither topics I can find, but there is still one thing that maybe some of you could shed some light on. When I save a file in Bias Peak, it adds dither and the resulting 16 bit file is dithered. But sometimes I want to use other software and there are also dithering options on such plugs as the Waves L2, Final Plug, etc... But when I apply those plugs with dithering activated, it does not change the bit rate of the file in my audio editor. So, was it dithered? Am I now supposed to manually convert it down to 16 bit? I don't understand why these plugins with dithering don't convert the file. I'd appreciate any info on this. Thanks. |

First add the dither and then convert the bit-depth.
For example sound forge does it in one go, but it's fine to do them as separate processes as well.
Obviously you should not do any changes to the audio after dithering and make sure you apply the dither before converting.
