i am not an expert at this but if I were to try this i would open a wave generator and use a sine wave and then use a second oscillator to modulate the sine wave with another side wave. then automate that second sine wave over the course of the melody. This i think will give a result that is too harsh sounding, but maybe with some tweaking (different type of waves, filtering, EQ) you can get something close?

+1 and choose the right synth with the right filter for it.
it is a simple sound that lives due to its filter and osc characteristics. i got nice results with albino on this although it normally does not have the best sound it does the job quite good.

Why not? Are they some supernatural godly beings? Or are they just like you and me?
Most artists out there are friendly and like the fact that you find their sounds impressive and want to do something similar.
