do you think the mixes will get a lot of views once they're posted in a stickied thread?
you can't even tell if someone has made a new comment, since it's always up on top.
i guess if the clutter is that much of a problem.. ..it's just another party.. |

While I am not inherently opposed to the idea, here's another way of looking at the clutter issue... most of the posts in the North America section are event listings... given the size of the continent, 90% and up are completely irrelevant to any individual reader, whereas DJ mixes can be enjoyed by all.
|
|
on the other hand, event listings are directly tied to geography, while DJ mixes are not and should not be confined to one geographical area...and there is already a forum specifically designated for DJ mixes and similar media for artist promotion...
so, consolidating DJ mix posts here, while encouraging posts in Promotional Media thread, should help out all NA DJs by giving their mixes atleast double exposure...
making it a sticky thread would of course prevent users from leaving feedback, posting their own mixes (would have to send to me or Jeto first so there would be a lag), and seeing when the thread is updated...however, anybody could just link to the mix's thread in promotional media and leave all the feedback they want there...it would be more like a sub-forum than trying to completely transplant everything to another forum. |

NA DJs already get double exposure by posting here and in the "promotional media" section. Amalgamating content here only restricts promotional opportunities for homegrown talent. There are different levels of geographical relevancy at work here--local, national (continental in our case), and global. Living in Toronto, I will probably not travel to L.A. for an event, nor is someone from Vancouver likely to be interested in a local Toronto gathering. Event listings target the local demographic.
DJ mixes might appeal to all three levels. People tend to enjoy hearing mixes from their local DJs, and it is no doubt good promotion. On the national scale, there is the potential for a good mix to get someone booked across the country. Globally, mixes are of interest for the obvious listening benefits, and much less so for booking potential.
North America is a unique case. Though we remain culturally competitive in a wide variety of fields, we lag far behind in the psychedelic underground. This is a recurring subject for debate here in this very forum. The collective ideology I see emerging is one of synergy--helping each other out, maximizing potential connections, and pushing it all to the next level. In this light, it seems absurd to consolidate and restrict mix postings simply to reduce clutter. What is potentially lost, and what is gained from the idea?

I think a sticky for mixes and promos is by far the best idea...
As for North America being behind... Duh.
But we are nipping on the heels of the international community in the Darkpsy department.
Lets quit dwelling on the fact that we suck and put that behind us. Enough with that.
Think of it this way... the possibilities are endless, and we only have room for improvement...
SO Lets get to crackin!!!!

So, it seems as if the designated thread hasn't been updated in about five months. I've had no response from either moderator I sent a request through to. Here is another unfortunate problem with this idea of amalgamating DJ-related content into a single thread: it requires some effort, and the mods aren't keeping up
Maybe it is time to open this forum up to posting mixes again?

thanks for the kick in the ass.
everything is freshly updated now (and no it hasn't been 5 months ).
frankly, there is now a designated section for DJ sets, so they don't really belong here as threads.
in the future it would be more efficient to send mix info to both moderators.
obviously it's a problem if we don't stay on top of updates, so if this continues to be a problem, changes will have to be made.
suggestions are welcome, but let's not get carried away with this one again... |
