what is the difference between normalizing a channel and pulling the fader down rather than only pulling the fader up? Except the extra processing-step ofcourse?

normalizing is should be the same as pulling the fader up till the loudest sound reaches the desired volume, mostly 0 or -0.1..

I usually do not normalize sounds so much... But I turn up the volume of each channel for boucing(I don´t care about mix at this point), cause I hate when u have the low level sounds.

Btw, I saw a BT video where he says:"First thing I do is to normalize all the sounds." Interesting and intriguing same time!           LOADING...

Why add the extra processing step? It has no benefit and a very small negative effect so why do it?

It is an extra step. A step that is not needed if you just set all your levels correctly. Aker is right.

Your very first post in this thread was an attack and insult to Aker. Well out of order. EDIT: Don't stoop to his level.

The only way I would ever "normalize" might be with a maximizer in the mastering stage...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:
