do u know any other way to normalize a file.. except form Process--> Normalize in Cubase SX2 because the tail end of the .wav is kind of soft. I want the whole file to be at the same volume.
Thanks

you can normalize in every audio editor you wish,
including sound forge, wavelab, cool edit.

but if i understand corretly, you want to increase the lower levels of the wave and make them at the same volume as the higher levels.

for this purpose use compression or graphic fade.

I don't use wavelab myself, so I don't know there. Sound forge has a built in compressor, the wave hammer. But the word on the street is that the compressors from 'waves' are very good ...
good luck

For compression, open the file on Wavelab, and put an effect, for example Waves C4. Make the setting u want, then press "Render".

To get out the hiss try the plugin from Waves called X-Noise, if I´m not mistaken.

A. its better to maximize than to normalize
B. waves`s got a plug in called "x-noise" it will remove the hiss from your samples but you need to be carefull cuz its also alter the sound.

yes waves x-noise removes the hiss, and it enabels you to choose which frequency it works on, makin it a very helpful tool.
but my opinion is that if you want a sound all at the same level first use a compressor removing all the dynamics of the sound, and then if you want normalize it ( although i´m not very keen of normalizations, i don´t use it often, you can "normalize" better with a compressor...

I think u should use a limiter (also a kind of compressor) to just raise the volume.

First normalize ur track with soundforge (or any other wave editor) and the take a limiter like one of the waves series, L1/L2/L3. I like the L3 and set treshold as deep as u want and need, the deeper the louder will be ur mix, but be careful it will take dynamics and change the sound if u do to much (ull hear ur mixing errors ). Just try a bit and compare to other tracks if u do to make ur track loud for playing it.

For cleaning samples xnoise is really good. Another whole program for it is Magix Cleaning Lab 2005 what i think is also very good for this.

all the options above are good, but i would stress NOT to normalize a sample if you want just to increase its volume, overdrive, gain.

i dont know why normalization does this...
but it makes the samples sound like crap
at most times.

What you want is a Limiter/Compressor
as you say you got the Waves Diamond bundle you can use the L2/L3 and they should do the job.
