Are these concepts relevant for art in general, and psychedelic trance in particular?

For me, it's definitively pointless.

I start this topic, because i've read many orthodox point of vue here and there.
Especially about darkness/melodies and "decent tempo"...

e.g. I think 110 bpm could be nice and 180bpm too

Noise or genious, melodies to send you to the outter rings of saturn, or cheese, is entirely subjective, but I think that anything above 145 starts getting too crammed. I like space in tunes, I like sounds to breathe, I like bass and I find that 3 notes of saw bass between each kick in tempos that are 145 + start becoming like one prolonged, low mid note.
I don't like dancing to really fast music anyway.
138 to 142 is my favourite range for trance tunes...although The Great Unknown which is one of my all time favourite trance tunes, is at 136.

I personally do not feel that art in any form should have any rules or protocols as then it no longer would remain art and probably head towards science.

Regarding the bpm, both the mentioned bpm;s could work good, if they are able to let the listeners enjoy rather than get irritated or bored or hurt.

Granted that a tune above 145 can be really good, I would just slow it down to 142, thats all.

If it gets too fast it stops being trance.

Bpm's below 148 seems like a journey , makes u feel like a Frisbee and the bpm;s above this makes u feel like you just being a football.

What's wrong with someone saying that music that is too fast, is not something he can get entranced with?

Trance-dance for me has always been about reaching a meditative state. There is also some science behind this and it relates to the tempo and the 16th and 32nd patterns used. This can influence the brains alpha waves apparently. Too fast and it won't. So for me it ceases to be trance.

i have start to realized that i trip and enlighten myself much better and smoother with chill out music like Entheogenic or anything that is tribal, has pure elements and has room and air for you to move, to think , to realize..
I have to agree that fast music enclosures many many elements that you cannot follow, that distract you, like they drink your blood without giving anything to you, its like a punishment in some way.
And anything from 135 to 145 bpm is more danceable while it can have as many elements you wish, being trance & more ductile in grooves and landscapes, i think the feelings you give to a 160 bpm "dark" sounding track can be transposed to 140bpm with the same feeling, whats really the rush about...
fast drugs, fast life, fast music, fast feelings... i feel like shit with this

Maybe the word "trance" is inappropriate for our music, since there is many breaks an not so repetitive phrases...

And by the way, some chamanic rituals (i think about mongolia chamanism) who use music for trance induction are very faster than that.
