thanks! just out of interest, has anyone got any info on how these are made? i've heard a rumour that they can be emulated with synth edit as well. |

These are made by rebuilding a synth module-by-module (oscillators, filters, envelopes, parmeter buttons, etc.) and hooking the modules up following the signal flow-diagram of the original. In Reaktor it is pretty easy when you get the hang of it, although i always encounter a few puzzles that take a lot of time.
Anyhow, the sounds of the emulations are markedly different than those of the original. This is because filters, envelopes, other modules and their interaction add their own signature to the final sound. So the Synthedit Virus will probably sound different than the Reaktor Virus.

Also, you'll note that SURIV-B emulation has like 10 presets. A lot of the "different" Virus presets are based on a lot of the same sounds as other presets, but are changed by built in effects like delays, distortion, reverb, and Arpeggiators that also sound different, or that can't be included at all.
You shouldn't necessarily think of any of these as an equivalent for the real thing, just as a really cool Reaktor module that's worth having.
Frankly, I've gotten more use out of Slyman604's custom built Reaktor ensembles that he has posted on this forum. Most of the noisier FM-type sounds on my album are from Reaktor modules built by him and I am forever in his debt.
