I would go for the TI. As far as I know, most of the problems concerning the TI and its performance has been fixed, but please enlighten me if I am wrong..
The thing that turns me a bit down about Clavia's synths is the low number of multitimbral parts, the Virus has always had 16 parts and I think this is a major part of the Virus' success..

Virus TI all the way!!! There are no problems with the actual hardware unit. The issues were with the Virus Control (vst version of virus), but most everything is sorted out now. For the first 4 months i wasnt even using the virus control, just the hardware synth. Just the synth alone is worth the price, but you also get the Virus Control which adds a whole new level!! Did you know you can run 16 midi channels in your DAW and route each of them to a different channel on the virus AND fully automate each layer with the various virus parameters (including independent effects) AND they play back all the layers simultaneously!! This should perhaps help you make a decision...
Cheers!

I've had 10 tracks work fine, all automated. I have a USB hub connected with a mouse, hard drive, and the Logic dongle plugged into it to one port. The Virus is plugged directly into the other USB port on the computer. I have had it work in both Ableton and Logic.
Do you mean a USB 1.1 as in vs. USB 2. I use a Mac powerbook that has USB 2.
Honestly, even if it didnt have the virus control, I would still definitly go for the Virus. The arpegiator on it is sooooo sick and the distortion/saturation is like nothing else. For psytrance, i would definitly choose a Virus TI. We also have a Nord lead 3 in our studio, but it doesnt seem to be as easy to program or as versatile.
Cheers!

In fact, if anyone is curious, you can listen to our tracks which are about 75-80% Virus TI. Everything from pads, to leads, to hihats/drums, twisted midrange arpegiations and various fx sounds. All of these virus sounds or at least 99% of them were made without using the virus control. The sites are http://www.panjea.com/anachronid or http://www.myspace.com/anachronid
If anyone has any comments or suggestions, we would love to hear them.

Hi all. I also own a virus ti, and I can tell that in the beggining it has a lot of problems with controls, some minor errors.
But not now, I recieved a couple of e-mails from access with the links to download the new updates for the virus, and it's working just fine now.
Gr88 machine without doubts.

Even the Virus B sounds better than Nord Lead 3, IMO. I like both, but the Virus´s sound is number one. |
