well if youve got a orginal tb?that IS analog, no microchips in that fucka, if i was u i wouldnt use anything else for bass.wot converters u use? it sounds like u have what u need already.hardware is for ego, and it takes a lot of faffin about mate, midi clocks, wires converters etc. i watched my friend go to hell and back tryin to make a track with hardware.vst is instant.sh 101 is allright, if u do get a synth get an old real analog bastad which has proper fullon rave noises. |

astrotec, quite your digital-hate crusade.
Your forgetting that what might work for you doesnt work for everyone else.
And i knew someone would say that a midi controller controlling a vst is the same as a digital synth. Not to me.
The (obvious) things and benefits about synths, digital or not:
The Nordlead, and any other digital synth is still an instrument when you computer is swithed off.
It doesnt crash.
It doesnt take up cpu power.
You can very easly run it thrugh nice analog processing gear.
And there are proberbly more things on that list.
And theres a list for vst's as well. These are just the main reason why I like my nordlead and also facts about digital synth.
I also still believe that many of them sound better, for some reason even though its digital.
The DAC's also have some saying in how a digital synth sounds.
And what is that saving sounds on a nordlead thing about? You say its difficult? I dont know where you got that from. You press store and pick a number to store your sound on. Thats it! Thats two clicks; cant get any easier.

you've miss understood me, i don't hate digital at all, quite the opposite.i am 100% software lol. i guess like everything to do with sound, its not the instrument its the person who's using it and whatever works for you works for you.i was just saying that if i was 2 recommend an outboard synth, i would recommend 1 with a real transistor in it rather than micro chip. |

Yea. I think there was a missunderstanding...
Several ones, actually.. Zak ment the MC-303, not the TB-303.
If it's about most possibility for the money, the money is always best spend in a FAT computer.

Missunderstanding? I dont see it. Yes it should have say digital-hardware but that pretty obvious.
astrotec; Your sudden humbleness suits you. You should have started out this way.
Calling synths that many people here like and use "new computer chip analog modeling crap" just because they dont work for you is pretty lame. Especially when youre saying that they sound exactly the same as vst wich works for you.

i havn't tried to write a track with hardware, i've had a lil mess about with them but i have plenty of friends that have and i have since been put off the idea, but whatever you feel comfortable using, use it.

nl on itself sounds often a bit dull, but when you put a delay, chorus.. etcetera on this dull sound, wauw it can sound really great. |

I find that the nl is the only va synth that sounds good without fx wich is quite fortunate since its also the on va sold without internal fx. |

What do you mean? Fx arent there to improve sounds; they just add something to a sound that gives it a different flavor, different vibe, different place in the mix etc. |

dsp discovery good for beginners, to see how ring and fm modulation works but its quite limited by its small potential. also it sounds a little like a "paper"... flat.
synth1 is good quite enought but sounds more like a Virus, anyways too sharp... but of course EQ sometimes is making miracles
work and learn

Ok. I agree about the Virus. Withough the fx its just not very impressive but the fx makes it alot more interresting and dramatic. |

I really enjoy the sound of the nords that I have used in the past.. I've used the Nord lead 1 and 2 as well as the modular g2... I enjoy the sound very much, but I still like the virus TI more hehehe...
Sometimes there are some sounds that hardware makes that is incredibly difficult to accomplish with vsts... why not use both? I think that's where things are heading anyway... When I don't have access to the nord, then I use discovery or synth 1, both are great and operate relatively similar to each other. but if I have a nord in front of me, then I'll use that... unless the discovery can get me a different sound than the nord... it all depends on your mood.
