Can anyone give me some tips on making psytrance sounds on my Nord Lead?

What kind of sounds would you like to learn how to make?

If you really can't get the juice out of the red box then u better sell it.

Nord is not a FAT sound machine, it is clean and sharp but can get really nasty if well programmed. Stop comparing it to a Virus its a completely different league.

Maybe spend some time learning synthesis... I just can't handle how you expect someone on the net to give you a straight forward recipe to create great sounds.

We already gave u the best tips... distortion, fx, multilayer, fm, synch, pwm, stereo delay, etc.

Turn the oscillator mix all the way to oscillator 2.
Set the mod envelope to oscillator 2, amount somewhere between 1 and 2 o clock, attack at zero and decay somewhere between 10 and 12 o clock.
Now select either a highpass or bandpass filter, add some resonance, play with the envelope amount setting, adjust to your liking and you got yourself a nice inspiring Psy squelch sound to start with.
Add some delay + reverb to make it come alive.

As soon as you like what you have, store the preset and make some more presets.
Try some longer envelope settings, different filter settings, throw some lfo's modulating filter + pitch in the mix and before you know it you got yourself a whole bunch of nice saw ripping squelch sounds.

Well that's just for rubbery squelch sounds, but imo that's one of the areas why the Nord is soo great for Psytrance music.

I can't believe you're fortunate enough to have a Nord Lead and a Virus and you're lurking online to find out how to make it sound great ;/ I would spend all my waking hours jamming the keys off that beast if I had one lol.

Nice tips Djones !!

you can take the same setup and change the mod env to FM, and you'll get some nice results.

(i have the nord rack 1, and i have found that play on a keyboard is more intuitive to design the sounds than use your DAW instead )

do you know what an envelope modules is ?
do u know what an oscilator module is ?
do you know what an filter modules is ?
do you know what an lfo is ?

if yes great..if no...go study bout it..

click in DOWNLOAD and save it to ur computer

now delete ur presets from 1.1 to 1.10 and recreate them the patches written in this doc....

now u are going to have 10 basic presets that u can come out with hundreds of variation ...

create a nice midi line... then play with those presets and find new variations with the FM . RINGMOD. diferent resonance amount. diferent filters modulation. etc....

record all the variations and u ll get a pack of loops recorded in ur nord lead with the same midi melody but now u ll have tons of loop to edit/play with to build ur music...

make a track only usin ur nord lead so u can explore it a lot.
