Ok now i feel a little better and can write a little about the sounds. Sorry for making you wait so long! I will just explain the main principle and the sounds i will put in groups some of them are made pretty similar if you listen.
so sounds 1 and 7, 8 are typical FM sounds, automated FM ammount. take sine oscillator, and automate the fm ammount by the lfo or the modulation envelope and set the initial fm ammount to taste. twiddle the lfo rate and you get endless hell of various sweeps, bells and swirls. finally shape them all with the amplifier envelope.
sounds 2, 3, 9 ,12 is pitch modulation. again nothing complicated just modulation of the oscillators pitch by lfo or mod env. it sounds good with pulse wave with little width and saw wave. filter hi-pass or band pass with narrow band works good. One words about Computer Language sound it is modulated by S/H waveform of LFO, S/H stands for sample and hold well to not to get into the principles of it imagine it is random ammount generator.
the leads 5, 6, 10 and sounds 4, 11 is synced noise. play with the syncing oscillators pitch by the octave/semitones knobs to get different timbres. btw this is not for discovery vst users the sync noise i heard in version 2.0 is complete useless sounds like gnat farting. anyway you can try it on vanguard for example. And the sound 4 is again very simple, just high speed lfo automation of a low-pass filters cutoff on a synced noise waveform.
so here i showed some of the synths sound creating tools and what type of sounds each gives. as you see there is nothing complicated if you work step by step on it and understand how it will sound. try to build the sound going through the synths signal path like first oscillators waves anf their mix, then try form a timbre by FM, syncing, ring modulation, after that work with the filter and its envelope and finally make the sound interesting or completely alter it by modulation of different parameters.
well all this is just some recomendation not an instruction)
you must just imagine a synth as a group of modules each of them hawing some function and the two types of connections between these modules.
ok lets take the nord/discovery.
it has 4 types of modules. oscillator - generates the main sound material, filter - shapes this material in frequency content and amplifier shapes the final sounds amplitude behaviour in time and finally lfo is little different from the previous 3 cause it dont makes any sound at all it ganerates control signals for the previous 3 modules different parameters.
and about the types of connections now, there is 2 of them as i said, the actual sound signal path it is fixed in the nord lead and is OSC -> FILT -> AMP. the second type of connetcion isnt audible by itself it is just used for automating different functions. for exaple envelope in filter generates control signal for the cutoff frequency. lfo generates control signal for choosen destination. and so on...
hope you understand what i said sorry for little bad english i tryed my best so the main tip from this posting is that you must understand and imagine before you the different modules functions and their connections to make the sound.
good luck and hawe fun! |
