Try this, from Ableton's website:

"The easiest way to set it up is using Live's built in lesson on it. Go to the Help Menu and select Help View. Under Lessons, click Show All Built-In Lessons. Then, under Hardware Setup click Driver Error Compensation."

Even if you have very high latency you shouldn' have any problems with recording.
Solo a track with midi notes, arm an audio track, set the audio inputs on it and press record. After you finished double click on recorded audio file and set clip start on waveform begining.

If it doesn't work disconnect your audio interface and record something via built in audio card input. Probably there will be higher latency and higher buffer size but you should be able to sync. Or borrow any other audio interface from friend if you have a possibility.
This test will determine what is the cause of your issues. If it's audio interface - try to configure it better (if it's possible) or send it to repair.
If it's DAW problem and you have legit copy- reinstall it, send a message to Ableton. If cracked - find another version or buy original

For me you have a problem with audio input configuration. Even if your interface have a 400ms latency you shuld be able to compensate it via external instrument Hardware Latency or track deley on midi track which contains notes

Following Ableton's guide, using their help menu should solve the latency problem! The software is then able to compensate for both latency, plus driver error and your recordings should now be locked in time. If not, I'd contact both Ableton and your sound card developers and report on the problem. Even for less then desirable super high latencies, it should be able to compensate for it.

Well, at least the first bit of it (the recording). Because then, there's midi jitter and it's a whole other subject - far more expensive to solve.

You can work around this by recording smaller parts, the longer it has to play, the more the timing will start to go off, presumably. So recording like 4 bars at once is one way to handle it. The longer the recording, the more likely it is for timing to start going off, unless you have some midi clock or expert sleepers hardware, or other solutions that provide sample accurate timing with no midi jitter.
