Hi,
In old topics about Nord Modular G2, people said that "G2 can reproduce any sound of Nord Lead 2". Thinking mainly in the classical NL2 patches used in psy, somebody tried it in G2 and obtained success?
Thanks,

it depends on how technical you want to get about "reproducing". The g2/nl3 anti aliased oscilators dont sound the same as the nl2. The filters sound a bit different but its hard to tell to my ears if thats just because your feeding in a different oscilator.
You can certainly make sounds that are close with the g2, you can totally nail any sound the lead 2 can do with the nord modular 1. I cost about 1/3 the price of the g2 used also. |

yea CHROMED Modular?? that sounds awesome.
i think if you cant get past that the manual says windows 95 instead of xp and cant figure out the slight differences between those in order to use the modular your head is going to explode when you actually try to program with it. |

Why all you guys want to reproduce some sounds? Use the same synth you want to hear or try to create somethinng different.
The clavias all have a similar sound flavour. So all clavias sound somewhere similar. You can also create a NL2 patch for the G2 (think it has been done already) but imho it sounds not 100% the same. Quite close but not the same.
If you want the flexibility and power of the G2 go for it. Its an awsome machine. But you need to create your patches (synths .. its modular) by yourself, otherwise its a waste of money. If you just want to use presets or modify the a bit go fot the nl2 or nl3 if you like the clavia sound. |

while i agree its cooler to come up with different sounds, with the modular, if you try to recreate a used sound you are surely to come up with tons of new sounds while in the process.
I still think the g2 is a total waste of money if you have never used the NM1. It would take years to even begin to be able to use the new features, also there is over
20,000 NM1 patches online that you can start with and the incredible nord modular web book for learning the machine.

all for about 4x less than the g2, and it sounds alot more evil than the g2 |

For recreation of sounds ... you can recreate almost every synth more or less with another one ... it will sound different .. but the question was if the G2 sounds like the NL2.
Reasons for the G2: more dsp power, more modules, final osx software, nice userinterface (the hardware), very live-able,...
And for "it would take years..". If you take it like this its best to start with a Atari ST & Notator. Much more easier to use than the modern software, cheaper,... Just joking
I started working with modular synths with reaktor and switched to the G2... |
