I happned to purchase a cd called Front Line assembly and Frinds - "The Best Of Cryogenic Studio" andit had a group called Dlirium, it was the most blissed out ambient since BDL's debut album I'd like to know more dark ambient like this, as well as some more like FLA because some of their tracks are funky experimental psy music with the sweetes melodies (usually when Rhy Fulber is involved)... I'm enjoying some of the downtempo on FLA's newest album Civilisation's, once again involving Rhys Fulber... |

Well Journey Man, I don't know the record you are talking about, but when you talk about "dark funky experimental music", hehe, then I suggest you to give a listen to this :
Atmo.Brtschitsch ::: Change Your Life
The first Cd album released by Silke Maurer german label..
Both guys (Dr. Atmo and Paul Brtschitsch) need no introduction in their solo career and style (ambient for the first, elektrotechno for Paul), and this surprising meeting is really, in my opinion of course, something stunning.. Great great music with many track accompanied with chants.. They even managed to convince Billy Corgan (former Smashing Pumpkins leader) to be a part of it.. On a track they also used some spoken words of Serge Gainsbourg !! Really, it's an incredible album.. Probably my most surprising buy this year, and i will certainly play a lot of this album in my next sets !

Cool will check it out... do you know anywhere online to get it? The album I"m talking about only came out this year... Front Line Assembly are an industiral electro group from Canada, very similar sound to Violet Vision but they were around in the 80's doing such stuf... they had many side projects looking into ambient and experiemental styles with some heavy guitar and osy trance influencs... Tim Schuldt and Cydonia did some remizes of them and were also heavily influenced... I've been a fan for about the last decade, I played a set of their music at the opener of a psytrance party the other night and it went down very well I'm just looking for stuff outside the psy-chill realm as I'm finding it a bit boring right now (not saying it's bad, just not doing it for me any recent releases)... Thanks for the tip, keep 'em coming |

A lot of the "ambient side projects of industrial musicians" usually get thrown in the 'dark ambient' genre. But, a lot of it is really nice and psychedelic too.
If you like Delerium, then you might also like "Soma" which is a project of David Thrussel (of Snog) and Pieter Bourke.
Soma - Hollow Earth (Extreme Records, 1994)
This one has plenty of beats and a few noisy sounds but retains an overall chilled feel. Was released in 1994, but still sounds current. I'm listening right now and impressed at how it well this is aging...great stuff!
A short review--
"SOMA is a diverse amalgamation of seemingly incompatible yet consumer friendly techno / reggae / digital / Spaghetti Western / wimpy ambient / analog / industrial / new age / organic / zippy / flaky influences. "Hollow Earth" has 13 tracks, is over 74 minutes in duration and sounds savagely contemporary."

Also check out "The Inner Cinema"...
Soma - The Inner Cinema
and here's another short review..
"David Thrussell and Pieter Bourke have now firmly established SOMA as a musical entity with its roots in the 90's and its sources in the many decades of recorded music. Taking no prisoners, Thrussell and Bourke combine trip-hop with sci-fi, dub with country and tribal with tex-mex. "The Inner Cinema" paints an intriguing soundscape that allows the imagination and the memories to be prompted into a vision splendid."

Both of these can be purchased directly from Extreme's website.

Non Psy Chill Out:
'New World Observer' - Deadbeat I call it IDM: Intelligent Dub Music. Really Stellar.
'Unomia' - Helios - Recommended for fans of Boards of Canada, with nice piano etudes in between electronic pieces.
'Transmigration' - Rena Jones - Incredible and moving electronic music with cello and violin played over the top. Available from her website at www.renamusic.com
Cheers,

there's plenty of more goodies to be found on extreme's web site. my personal favourite is a group called "social interiors" but this is more ambient than chill out.
and if you want something odder (and a bite of electronic music history) check out morton subotnik's "silver apples of the moon - the wild bull". it's experimental electronica / modern classical music from the late 60's.
