i can bounce to audio with export and play it but when i record direct through the audition bus (red dot on transportpanel) there is nothing. did the settings in windows right, checked under vst connections the audition bus and put the right bus there. when i press the point there is no metronome for some seconds, it starts right away to record in the record activated track with no sound in it. is there a setting in cubase i an missing or will it be hardware? vaio and m-audio audiophile Firewire. help apriciated.

You can't record through the Audition Bus, that's not what it's for - it's an output, not an input.

If you want to record an external source you'll need to go back to the VST Connections window and select the Input tab, and make an input bus connected to your souncard's inputs. You can then select this bus in the Input field of the audio track's Inspector.

If you want to resample/record your track in real-time as it plays back you need to go to the VST Connections window, select the Inputs tab and set up a record buss connected to the Audiophile's inputs... then you need to find a way of routing the outputs of the Audiophile back into the inputs. I'm not totally familiar with the mixer app for your soundcard but if it's anything like my Firewire 410 it might be a case of connecting the s/pdif inputs to the s/pdif outputs (making sure the playback channel is routed to the digital outs) and then making an Input Bus in SX that listens to the digital inputs, and recording through that.

wow Colin, thanks for the great information..

s/pdif inputs and s/pdif outputs
i always wonderd why i never utilize those inputs and outputs..

can you give more examples of what i can use those for?

im gonna try that method, but i dont think i have any s/pdif cabels.. going to have to investigate in this matter...

a new thread needs to be started..

s/pdif cable = phono/RCA cable. The higher-quality cable the better, but you can use regular RCA cables if you need to.

The S/PDIF I/O is a digital connection and you can use it for a lot of things.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
