The best way to be sure before buying would be to check out samples on saikosounds.com. They have fairly long samples, some even 4 minute ones and that should be enough to judge any track.

Another option - *download* the album and then buy it if you like it!           Don't Worry, Stay Trippy!

well, if an "innocent" user buys a cd just
because label manager x or artist y says it's good then it's his / her own fault. i don't see the problem here. if you want to
follow other people's opinions then you accept them. if you want to think for yourself and use your right to choose freely
then the "ass licking" will have no affect on your opinion / thinking / buyings.
everybody has to take responsibility for their own actions so you shouldn't go around complaining how somebody made you buy a crappy cd. right?

Well, I don't consider myself as innocent, nor was I complaining that somebody made me buy a crappy CD.

My main point was about people getting attacked because they say, that they don't like a certain release.
That's why the thread is called "No opinion wanted?".
Sorry if I couldn't get that across to everybody, I thought I made myself quite clear.

Cool, that's fine. I just got the impression, that you thought the being fooled into buying aspect was the most important part and felt misunderstood. Sorry for that.
But let's discuss that issue a bit further then....

Of course everybody is responsible for their own actions and shouldn't blame anybody else for buying a crap release. Still I find it is quite unrealistic to think that "ass licking" will have no affect on you, when you "want to think for yourself and use your right to choose freely".
Imo it does have an affect on people, when others over and over again say/write, that something is good.
Human beings are not as independant in their views and opinions as they think they are. Advertisment and hype does work more or less on everybody. Tastes and opinions get created. There are lot's of psychologists who are working on exactly that and have been finding out the best ways to do so.
I think it is naive to believe that you or anybody else is completely free from being influenced by other peoples opinions.

I somehow missed this one.

I say what I want here and if I don't like a release or something in it I will say it, though in a respecful and constructive way.

In general, I rather invest my energy in talking about what I like and not about what I don't like.

I believe that the main reason that people reply in such a way is that for some reason they get offended when people write bad things about what they consider good. It's understandble. People are like that.

I found out, though, that there is a way to say things so that most people won't get hurt, and you will save all these replies you're talking about.

For example: if you write "this release is crap, it's bullshit, and the guy is not even an artist"- for sure you'll get flamed- wouldn't you get angry at someone writing stuff like that about some who's art you appreciate? Good chance you would.

If you'll write, though: "I don't like this release, I don't connect to it. Reason being that I find it unimaginative, it doesn't keep my interest, I feel the parts don't sit well together, and the melodies are unharmonious"- you will generate a totally different reaction, I promise you, even though the same people will probably still not agree with you.

People are people- it's difficult to change other people, it is however much easier to change yourself, and you can get much better resaults easily. Try it.           ---------------------------------------------
