Yes, and Dostoyevsky was a half-mad misanthrope. Now what? We’ll stop reading his novels?
Well, maybe that was not a good parallel…
How about this one: should we reject Cossack songs for the unseemly acts of Cossacks themselves? Or can we put aside the question of who killed/raped/robbed whom and consider songs themselves as a part of Russian and Ukrainian folk music?
I personally can appreciate at least some of those songs, while realizing perfectly well that the bearers of this culture were for the most part glorified thugs.

Ahhhh c'mmon this thread shouldn't be about Barkan in the first place...for the few people that actually like to discuss Nitz, let's make it a nice discussion
This one is a gem: Russian Nitzho by Shankar, a guy that focusses on Ambient nowadays and is quite well known in his scene. This track roxoxox!!!
'bout the thug thing, there's also some really friendly Nitzho guys. D-Zager, Eyal Ben Or (aka real Iceman) and most of the Greek guys too.

I was actually talking about the Cossacks, not about Nitzhonot producers.
Those guys did a bit more than stealing tracks from Danish musicians. They wrote some pretty good songs, though.
Anyway, I don't see why every discussion has to have the inevitable "they ripped me off in '96 and have not booked me since 2002" line.

article in NY Times about Eyal & Oren Barkan. Barely readable though, but a nice source of information. They also mention the term 'victory trance'. That makes it one of the few mainstream articles about Nitzhonot.

What a stupid lowlife comment!
The point is that Eyal Barkan is "The Father" of this genre and is praised as being a fantastic artists when truth is he was far from being fantastic (to put it mildly). But I guess the truth hurt and instead of acknowledge that he was a criminal you go low with your petty comment. OH and I have had plenty of bookings since 2002
Funny how the truth regarding certain topics or people in the trance scene always is a taboo. www.beatagency.dk

So what? You've said again and again he is a worm. Why don't you just sue him - IN PRIVATE? The same excuses you wrote for using samples, he may have other ones to rub in your face.
You should be happy that this worm used your tracks, he helped to spread your name around.
Man, you here as Beat Agency or as Elysium in News psy, you're always a pain in the ass!

It’s not stupid, it’s just a general observation. It’s hard to find a topic in this forum where some variation of that sentence would not show up. And for give me if I got the years wrong. My bad.
(Not sure what’s so “low life” about this comment anyway)

Remember how you admonished DETOX for making too many assumptions about what you think? You’re falling into the same error here. You somehow imagine that I am a die-hard fan of this dude and a total fanatic of Nitzhonot, out to get you for your dissident comments. In fact, my interest in Nitzhonot is very mild and is just a curiosity. Pretty much all I know about it comes from Agneton’s posts and YouTube clips. As for Eyal Barkan, I know nothing about him at all, other than what I read in this thread. It’s just that, unlike you, I don’t care whether he was a saint or a total asshole. It’s of absolutely no importance in my life and is totally unrelated to the qualities of music he promoted. Hence, my Cossack analogy: those dudes had quite a few good songs, in spite of being glorified gangasters.
My apologies to all the readers who did not need these explanations.

Plur always cracks me up. The only one that gets away with it for me is Swaroop (Samana), because he really means it. So many other people go on the plur thing because it is sooo fashionable... not because they mean it.
As to father of the genre, (the name is so stupidly complicated that I have to write genre instead)
, I don't know man, sounds like he stole a lot, how can he then be father of the genre? Why not just call it Goa of the mid 90ies 'Cause that's what it is...
