Hi all,

you may have guessed from my few posts I'm a fan of this style of psy.

I'm putting together a small home studo for and looking to produce some sounds in this style.

I have already my dj gear and Edirol UA-25EX.

I am also looking at purchasing the Akai MPK49 for my midi keyboard and the KRK Rokit 6 G2 monitors, with a look at getting the sub in the near future.

My main need is to know what is a good sequencing/production program.

I run a laptop, and soon a pc desktop, with Windows Vista and the lappy has 2 gig of RAM which I might looke at jacking up to 3 or 4 gig as Vista eats so much.

My initial thought is to get FL Studio 8 for now as it is quite nice price wise and I am some what familiar with it's layout, with a look at heading into Cubase early to mid 2009...

I also want to know is Ableton Live 7 good only for live and loopingor can it be used for production in the studio as well?

Thanky ou for your time and apologies for mods if this is considered a bad topic or should have searched, I struggle very much with the search used on this site.

Kind thoughts and wishes,

Pepper

Hello mate...

I don't know the Akai MPK49, but I will recommend the Remote SL from novation. It's a beauty and a beast...

I would suggest that you try out a few DAW's to see what seems most easy for you to use. Most people say that FL studio is the easiest. I wouldn't know, cause I never gave any other than FL a real try, except for Ableton Live, which I use only for livesets.

But firstly, I would recommend that you get your DAW and start playing around, before making major purchases.           www.xun.dk / myspace.com/xundk

well have been playing with an older version of FL that a friend gave me for the last year or so so really like it..

Heard the new one is really good, much better than the older versions, so think I'll get it soon

I need some speakers anyway and have been to a few shops with cd's of what styles I like and tested them, the KRK's are nice price and sound wise for what I can afford.

Thought about the Remot but some friends said the Akai is really good for what you pay, whereas they said the Novation wasn't 100% worth the money for what you get.

So I think maybe will get FL and the speakers soon, followed up by the midi then.

I used fruity back in the days too, since then tried Reason and Cubase. I am now on Cubase SX3 and really happy with it. It is a very powerful DAW and it is fairly straightforward once you master it after a while of playing. I would really recommend getting rid of Vista, as the only thing it does is eat up your resources in return of fancy looking crap A lot of stuff is not supported on Vista yet. About Novation I must say I do own one of the remotes and barely ever use it at its full potential - mostly do learn function to assign knobs. So I don't think I couldn't live with its revolutionary engine... It's up to you in the end           Monitoring devices, know where you go
