djones, with cubase sx (with logic for sure too) connecting a hardware-maschine is realy easy. i mix completly with the internal software-mixer. you can lay all vst-effect in realtime on the input to fit the external maschine in the mix directly on air. in most cases i record it realy fast with my modulating fingers on the knobs. after that i cut/split the recorded files and play with it as a usual audiofile until it fits as a wish.
the other reason for using my virus very often (even for basses) compared to vstis is that i dont want to modulate with my hands on a mouse since i can feel the maschine with my hands, this is an argue which is proven to be very important for the producing flow and creativity in my experience. i only use vsti if i want to have a special texture for example from the 'atmosphere' or something like that.

the only contra of the virus is that its sound is kinda special, as more other synth you use, as more difficult is it to fit this unique virus-sound into the mix. i have talked to other people feeling the same about that, maybe on reason why its always the main-source for most sounds i use.

beware of older viruses.

my housemates virus kb's osc 1 now squeals - we estimate it to be 5 years old...

basically it isnt usable anymore, and no one knows how to fix it.

anything with dsps and a mainboard has a use by date - of course some last longer than others

My TI already has hardware issues and goes back next week

cheers

This is just weird. Have your tried reinstalling the OS and doing a full reset?

Usually, DSP based synth either work or don't work at all. Having one oscilator squealing sounds like corrupted memory (either the oscilator waveforms or something else).

Anyway, my Virus B has no issues that I am aware of. It's a bit more than 400 Euro though ... 500 seems reasonable.

i would go for the novation xstation also, i bought one yesterday and im really impressed with the power of the ks synth engine, it also has a 24 bit 2 in + 2 out usb sound card, the effect dsp engine (delay, reverb, distorcion, eq and compressor), and and the midi controler which comes in 25/49 & 61 keys.

nice combo           (www) DarkPrisma.com.ar/ ~ FranticNoise.com.ar/ ~ Megalopsy.com.ar/ ~

It's nice to hear that people like the X-Station, but have anybody tried the new XioSynth? Builds on pretty much the same design as the newest Novation-things (ReMOTE, ReMOTE LE, ReMOTE SL & X-Station), and uses the KS and X-Station synthesis-methods..

Sorry, only danish link, as I haven't seen it anywhere else on the net (Novation's own site doesn't even have it)..           //Zeyon.

nice nice! but i still stick to the xstation!
worth the check anyways, is nice to see novation taking the synths to another level of market prices, i would never imagined to adquire a 0km quality synth with 4 oct keyboard for less than 1000 uss,
i just love it!

hey thats true, but whats left for maudio then? or edirol hehehe... its true novations station is more a midi controler with audio card than a synth, but no one can discuss its price below $800 uss.
