Here is a nice little synth programing trick i have been messing with. I did it with fruity loops, but it can be done with any program that will let you map the same way.
1) program a simple synth sound. i used the fee plug TB4005, on chord mode for nice fat sound. use a saw oscilator. pan this channel hard left.
2) duplicate this channel. on this channel everything is the same, but use a square oscilator. pan this channel hard right.
3) Open a fruity loops formula control and in the formula enter just "a". now link the cutoff of both your channels to this "a" knob, so the nob controls both channel's cuts.
When you link each channel to the controler, in the mapping formula for the first channel enter: " 1.5-(Input*0.5+0.5) " and in the second channel enter " Input*0.5+0.5 ". Make sure "resolve conflicts" is unticked!
Now what you have is the "a" knob controls both cutoffs, but in an inverted manner, and the "a" knob controls both filters only from the halfway point and upwards, so niether channel can reach very low cutoff and die out.
So now you can play a long note and play with the cut, and you have great stereo action going on and a nice super fat sound.
4) send both channels to the same fx buss, and add a delay plug. put the delay plug on cross (pingpong), and now you have even nicer stereo action and a super duper killarghghhghghghh sound!
note: if you don't need an internal knob (the "a") to control both filters, but simply want your hw midi knob to do it, you can skip the whole formula controler step of course.
of course, many variations on this idea can be made

try also entering the following formulas in the formula controller:
(rand()*0.2)*a
this will add some random stutter, try changing 0.2 to other values see what happens...
SeededRand(b)*a
play with the "b" knob..
(SeededRand(b)*0.2)*a
play with the "b" knob..

how would this be for SX3, instead of FL? |

im not sure sx can map values like this.... perhaps it can i'm not big in sx. i bet it can be done also in the environment in logic. i can do it in fl and in scope.
imo one of the good things in fl is the internal routing and mapping stuff. i just do it there and export the audio for use in logic.
i wanted to edit also the first post and can't anymore -
the hard panning left and right of the channels is there for the ping pong delay to pick up, so that the square starts left and crosses to right and the opposite for the saw, quite pleasent sounding imo.

i tried modulating the filter panning with an LFO in albino instead of using delay its nice too
theres also nice possibilities linking stuff with the peak controller |

word the peak controller is great too! i wish they made all sorts of wierdo internal controllers for fl.
Ok further improvement!
1) after you hook it all up, right click on the "a" knob and create an automation clip.
make 32 bars of this in the arrange, and set the automation so it starts at the lowest, gets to the highest in the middle, and ends with lowest at the end... like a long triangle.
2) click on the envelope channel and enable the lfo, also enable the multiply button so that the lfo's amount changes like you drew on the clip. change lfo speed and shape to your liking (fast shold sound nice) and enjoy

You can do it in Reaktor, if you're nerdy like me (works in most sequencers).
