Hello

So I decided to start using Massive again, because of the modulation options and the interface, quite easy to make some crazy sounds with it.. and it seems to be recommended in just about every post I read.

However..

I have absolutely no idea what 90% of those waveforms mean.. so I actually have no idea what I am doing haha :/

Anyone have any tutorials or such that could help shed some light on the synth and how it works? I understand that it is very different from a conventional analogue synth or such but other than that.. :/. Hate working 'in the dark' as all I am doing at the moment is guessing and whatever happens, happens.

Thanks in advance           http://soundcloud.com/luciditysa

yeh it just synth ..they all follow same principles... sum wave shapers, sum subtractive sum additive..

as for the waveforms...........

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waveform

talk about the basic ones above

then again i assume that 10 % of the wavforms u do kno r the saw sine square pulse and tri..the rest are just additives...fuk what they mean lol, get craking

In Massive you have standard waveforms like: sine, square etc and unique (only NI programmers know what they make there).
OSC section works like that: when you choose right waveform you will play a selected range:

you can move it by 'WT-Position' knob.
You don't need to know how they looks etc because the biggest fun of synthesis is to experiment For classic synthesis use just standard waveforms, other for experiment          http://www.beatport.com/release/cross-the-atoms/1042450

"Experiment, and just keep experimenting" that is what i was said, but honestly i recommend you using presets from Vengeance,Loopmasters,Zenhiser, and all others, and then experiment on them, good thing about Massive is that it has 8 macro knobs already set up with each high profile preset packs so use them to figure out what exactly are you using

Use an oscilloscope and watch the frequencies. No better way to know what's going on with each wave table.

Of course one of the advantages of using wave tables is that it allows you to modulate the "wt position" knob to change the timbre and produce really expressive results.

For some sounds, it's cool to combine the source of modulation for more then one destination: say "wt position", and the "drive" on some distortion stage using the same envelope or whatever.

I have other synths but i usually go for massive..
It so fast.

My advice,
Start with a clean patch, keep it basic in the beginning.

Start building your timbre first, timbre is important.(OSC)
Adjust your AMP enveloppe if necessary.

add a filter (you got 2, and you can mix the signals GREAT!) put the right fader up so you have just one filter.

Modulate you cutoff with an LFO(green=+ grey=-) or/and a enveloppe (1,2 and 3. 4 is amp enveloppe). maybe subtle maybe not so subtle.
Modulate pitch.
Modulate the LFO amps (square LFO is kewl).
Add anothe filter (someting different) and modulate that one.
Mix the signals (mod them).
......
Just understand the OSC, Filter and LFO section. that's basic.

take your time, sounds get better.
