Although from an "effectiveness" point of view getting Omni makes much more sense.
P.S. WANT that touch screen! Anyone knows what that is?

2. youre right on the effectiveness.
3. you might be fine with one 1gb ram if you use omni just for its synth engine. but you SO want to use that sampled based shizzle that comes with it as well, so there is no way around a ram upgrade!
4. fuckin ipad! i dont like those things... will get one as soon as i see a used one for <200 quid though now

after having fucked around with the orb app at work today...i wouldnt go out my way to get an ipad solely for this reason
A good laptop touchpad would do the exact same job

MMMM the new granular/waveshaping zooms are just lovely.
and...IDK when they added this feature, but you can drag any MIDI file directly onto Omni's envelope zoom section and it'll make envelopes out of it for you...
also works with Stylus RMX grooves...
Doesn't Celemony Melodyne have an option where you can take Audio files and turn them into MIDI?
It would be pretty funny to convert an audio file into MIDI then take that MIDI file and generate envelopes from it o.O
Anyways, I don't think that any other touch pad / tablet is the same...sure you might be able to get it to work for the orb but it won't be as set up as nicely as the iPad app. Definitely would not do the exact same job.
and yes, the Orb is awesome, though it's definitely not as cool with the mouse :\
If the iPad was priced in the way that all other Apple products were (as in, 2-3x the cost of components) then I wouldn't buy it. It's actually very reasonably priced though imo.
