I was told by a gy from creamware that VIA es really bad, worse than NForce 4, again my problem is beacause i want Creamware Scope, and i was told that they run perfect with intel chipset. So i guess i `ll go for Asus board with intel chipset. |

I had a lot of problems with NF4 chipset, at the moment a Gygabite NF4 ultra one, and I have to say that altho it is not too stable, it works pretty well.
No doubt whatsoever tho, that the following NF3 mobos are much better deal for making music:
The DFI and the Gygabite that were already recommended here, also the MSI Neo2 Platinum is very much recommended maybe more then the others actually, and then there is the Asus A8 Deluxe but this board is really old, altho it is said that its the only one that works well both with Dual Core processors and UAD1 together

Wanka Tanka, i had the same problem mate. i really wanted to use an AMD processor for my new daw but couldn't find a decent nf3 board. nf4 and via was a no-go for me. so i decided to build an intel based daw with an intel chipset. and i'm really happy with it, it is very stable and powerful (dual core).
good luck, and even if you concentrate on AMD, at least give intel a chance and read some of the reviews |

When I upgraded my DAW from a Intel to an AMD platform (X2 4400) I naturally moved my creamware sound card with it (pulsar2) and I encountered as well the snap/crackle/pops that everyone seems to be complaining about, as well as the high cpu usage and whatnot.
HOWEVER, after pouring through a lot of forums and such I noticed and checking my machines I noticed that my PCI-e gfx card (x800gt) and my soundcard were SHARING the same IRQ. Once I fixed that (a bit tricky, disabling ACPI and reenabling it... tutorials can be found), everything works fine!
No yeah I guess it may be a chipset problem but in my case it was a problem that the gfx card and the soundcard were fighting over the same resource, so you can see how that would suck for RT issues.
There just wanted to share my XP and let people know that nforce4 does not necessarily imply bad DAW. |
