A lot of people on the sonar forums seem to think so, especially if your using a uad or echo audio cards. Something with the new pcie bus taking all the bandwidth for video.
I played it safe and picked up a nforce3 board. |

the nforce 4 is no good for music and multimedia,
the best for it (if you useing AMD chip) is the Gigabyte motherboard Nforce3
  ================
S.D6 & Iron Madness- Dinak Production - Acidance Rec.
S.D6 Vs. Iron Madness- Blues Mystery - Doof Rec. & Yellow Sunshine Explosions rec.
Deepsky and Marc .M.- Lost In the moment (Deep Six remix) - Iboga rec. (Soon) |

Agree that Nf4 its not good for music need's coz Nf4 chip has lot problem's (I know that thay dont work well with PCI sound card's like RME.)
but disagree that Gigabyte is the best for AMD and music need's.
you can try:
DFI LANPARTY UT nF3 Ultra D - the BEST borad for music need's.(I use it)

i also can confirm that the nforce4 chipset is no-go.
JeSuS: how much load do you put on your pci bus? if you're on medium latency and if you only use two audio channels out of your machine, then you won't notice the problems. try to put ALOT of load on it. |

Thanks for ur replies, my problem as a posted a thread is that, i want to get athlon 64 with asus board and get creamware scope later, but one guy from creamware support told me that their card work best with intel chipset (955x) there´s a asus board with that chipset but i would have to go for Pentium wich would be more expensive both mothrboard and processor.
The asus board for athlon 64 have NForce 4, VIA, and SiS ias far as i remember, so.. stioldon´t know what to do. |

Ho!
thanks a lot Mindfilter for bring this issue up
I'm planning to build a new DAW for myself and what worrys me most is this NF4 chipset
according to my researchs in this forum and others sources and the quotes of you guys this CHIP really sucks bit time isnt it ?
I also dont like the idea of build a DAW with a Asus mobo as I see many of you guys complaining about this board in other old threads..
This issues limits a lot my choices for a good board as I can see in the stores here that the great majority of cards is from Asus (some with this scary NF4 too !) and some others with chipsets from VIA
My question is...can I trust a Asus mobo with this other chipset from VIA ? Anyone here have it in your machines ? Are you facing problems, conflits and etc...
I know I must run and get a DFI or Gigabyte card..but they are too fucking hard to find down here (and I live in the biggest city of my beloved country)..unfortunately the shops here only think about gamers
Important to say that I'm planning an AMD Athlon64 939 pins (to get the dual channel feature) and cuz this is new technology (rather than 754 pins)
In the case of I dont succed about getting a good, stable card 939/nf3..what you guys recomend ? Does a 754 card with NF3 and more RAM (2Gb instead of 1Gb) a way to go ? Do I lost something perfomence wise ?
anxious to find out
thanks
light and peace

ok, i just want to say that i´m running a NF4 chipset.
And guess what - on an Asus A8N SLI Deluxe,
an AMD Athlon 64 3200 Venice,
1 Gig of Corsair XMS Ram with a CL of 2 !!!
and this ram even isn´t listed on their recommended Ram´s for the Mainboard. Two Sata2 Seagate Baracuda HD´s on Raid 0....
And - everything runs smoothly with an RME HDSP System AND a creamware Scope System installed....
Wooooha - this is no joke guys -
And guess what else , the Northbridge is passive cooled, wooooha - and no problem here
( the Northbridge Heatsink is from Zalman )
So - don´t hesitate - i say !!!!!
It´s all a matter of configuration......
Cheers

I did research on this extensively before I built my daw this past summer. Yes some people's setups are ok with NForce4 but many had problems. Its basically a luck game. If you don't play video games, and are serious only about music, you do not even NEED this NForce4 technology. Its for video, and wont benefit your audio at all and costs a lot more. You have 2 options, NForce 3 or VIA boards. I went with the VIA because my board was very cutting edge and new when I got it instead of an older more obsolete Nfroce3. I def think u should have 939 these days. The VIA works like a CHARM, never had conflicts, easy install, my pc has never crashed once since Ive been using it since summer and trust me, i USE this pc to its limits.
I went with the Asus A8V deluxe board. Make sure not to get A8V-e or any other board with a -e (Pci-express) because it also hogs the PCI bus.
VIA is soldi and get an AGP video card and ur good to go. ALso the board i mentioned is Allenstein approved.
oh ya i will say tho that even to my pc is stable as hell, its not nearly as fast as it should be. but i think theres something wrong with my pc and not this configuration. |

VIA chipsets have pretty dismal PCI performances though, which are critical with DSP cards. Alot of people using Creamware cards with VIA chipsets got burnt pretty badly (not literally =P) because of the poor performance, even when it was fairly stable. |
