I have to agree here, this is a new phenomena with people posting small clips on tracks. I mean i see no purpose in it.

Along with people saying I use "x" synth, process it with "x" plug ins (that cost an arm and a leg) and claim "x" synth and "x" plug in sounds amazing, and that rules are there to be broken...etc, only to post a clip that sounds...well... quite short of amazing.

Not directed to the person that started the thread, but this recent "break the rules" trend, is extremely misleading, especially to people that are new into music production. You have to understand and master the rules before you can start breaking them with success.

Peace out.

Sonica, as I said I was not referring to you, so no need to get defensive.

An example is some well known artist (don't know who) starting to mix a track with a 0dB kick channel reference and someone going about breaking basic gain structure rules, on the premise that rules are there to be broken... or something along those lines.

Think about someone who is new into production, following this well known artist's example and wondering why the hell everything sounds so squashed.

I am trying to understand as well mate and if I ever meet the all knowing master, I will post his all encompassing wisdom on production techniques, in this forum.
But from the few things I understand, there are some obscene posts on production forums...I know I posted some shite when I was a n00b in production and thought I had it all figured out.

The general idea of forums like this one, is for like minded people that share a love for this kind of music, to help each other learn more and newer things. That is the purpose of me posting and reading here. I also seek help to learn more and new things.

I second pipe&slipper in every single word, and i urge new producers to take their time in production. It is nothing you can master overnight, some people work with music all their life and still they cannot master it, perhaps the basics can be thaught out pretty easily but the cornerstone in music production in my humble opinion is expermintation and keep yourself critic.

I believe the rules pipe&slippers is refering to are the fundamental rules of music creation. Like the physic limit for a non clipping channel is +-0db. for digital and +18 on analog. if im correct, dont flame me :D

Then by this rule you are compelled to go +0.01db just because rules are made to be broken, like the "well known artist" who mixes his tracks with 0.00db kick.

Headroom people, headroom. As important as coffe.
