Isn't that SH-201 basicly just JP-80x0 with some features stripped/changed and saturator and reverb added. No vocoder either (though it was JP-8080 only). No phrase sequencer. No midi-thru (well, JP didn't have it either).

The modulation system seems to be changed the most, now there is 2 mod destinations for both LFO's but I don't see velocity/morph setting anywhere... Which seems quite odd. Is that velocity sensitive at all?

Funny that they don't mention the polyphony
either. Probably the same 8/10 as with JP's.

Roland used to be my favourite company of the big three. But their target market has changed so much. I don't think their target market changed. It changed the same... Technology changed. Maybe in the past romplers were hard to make or something, and now it changed. Just a thought though

the sh 201 , looks kinda of cool , and does seem to be a bit virusee, but i suppose the only way to really rate this synth , is to hear how it sounds,.,....

thats the onyl way to know how good it is, no point looking at a picture and ripping somthing apart if you havent heard it, i think we tend to forget that music composition and creation with synths, is not about how many knobs your synth has , or how many cool features, but what the end result from the sytnh is, which in any event is the sound

just my 2 cents

l337, I take the good old car metaphor as an example: even if you have powerful engine in your car, it's no use if you don't have streering wheel or brakes. So usability is an issue at least for me.

In fact, this sh-201 is meant to be easy to use instead of a monster synth. So what if its a JP-clone, it probably sounds as good as JP or even better. And seems even easier to use.

My point was that it doesn't bring anything new to the table as a synth. I didn't mean to bash.

What is interesting though, that there is no information about the polyphony available. http://www.roland.com/products/en/SH-201/specs.html

edit:
Seems that it's lacking the chorus/flanger/phaser/essemble type effect... too bad, because those are quite essential :/
