The Sh-201 seems to adopt the TI bit from the Virus TI. I bet it uses the VA part of the V-Synth, or even worse, the same engine as the Sh-32. Anyway, to be fair it does look like its going to be much chaper than the TI though...we'll see.
The Juno-G seems to be a rompler made to look like a Juno 106 on the outside...what the hell are they thinking? I guess if they are making them, there's probably a market for them.
There's other romplers to bore you out of your mind on that page.

Roland used to be my favourite company of the big three. But their target market has changed so much. I guess people that sit in their living rooms and write "songs" for their wifes, dogs, or the difficulties of paying the mortgage, on their workstations, are the ones that splash out the most cash.
At least Korg did the Legacy synths...Yamaha...yeah

i think the last worthy synth from roland was the jp8000/8080

the engines in the mc 303/505/307 and sh32 where based in the jv/jx series wich were basically romplers.

in the mc505 ( i think the sh32 is very similar) you still get a lot of modulation capabilities and you have 512 (was it 1024) base waveforms to play with but it just doesnt sound analog or va (mostly because it isnt). it sounds very "controled" and digital in comparasion.

the phantom and similars are just atempts to make a kurzweil in japan

those synths still have a place if your searching for something that sounds diferent from your vas           roll a joint or STFU :)

the Juno G is what i like the most out of their recent stuff. The 201 looks a little too "easy " for me, then again , the Korg Prophecy is too simple too.... but i wont judge it by that, i have to play with one first           G+ - Army Collective - Kontakt Recordings

you're right, since 1995 they didn't do anything worthwhile, and now they try to earn money abusing the names of they're classics... Stupid stupid stupid... The JV series (and following XV series) were the last great machines made by roland imho.... And the JP-8000 from the same period...

Juno 60 does not have an lcd screen and its easy to save and restore patches there too. I don't think Roland will have taken that option away from the 201.           Me>You

I think youre forgetting roland V-synth wich is the flagship from Roland and is pretty amazing !!!The future is plugins or hardware like Virus TI with software integration!!!

man... the future is not so clear...

I think VSynth is an offspin off the roland COSM techonoly, but i never tryed any synth featuring either...

about software integration, i would only go into that if the same features are acessible without it

the modular nords are an example of that not happening, many people have to keep they're win98 boxes just for them wich is bad, i think...

about the future, everyone thought the future would be software emulation and everything software, but now we are seeing software developers releasing hardware with they're hardware inside, like the creamware prophet clone... and there was a lot of hardware in last namm           roll a joint or STFU :)

Prophet and Minimax hardware emulations all have software integration...Roland V-synth,has a touch screen making all edit tasks easy, and also Variphrase wich is awsome for stretching audio with the D-beam and Xy Pad to interact better ...
Clavia modular series have a shitty implementation,i agree,my new TI is full of bugs in Virus Control, everybody is waiting for OS 1.1 to come out,to see if the software gets stable once and for all !!
But i can assure you that when its ready it will be a great help in sound designing with all the matrix possibilities!!!

Also Kyma SYS is another great example of the software takeover nowadays !!

Off course that hardware will always have a strong presence in our world...
Its a matter of taste and how you feel confortable making your own stuff !!!
