Trough divine inspiration of Jah Rastafari and new horizons of self-awareness we witness the emergence of the new creed of reggae musicians - Caribace. The musical efforts of this band originated in St. Petersburg is a unique mixture of reggae pulsating syncopations, solid drum and bass foundations with the immense heritage of Slavic culture, both musical and poetic. These guys dive deep into the beat with their special brand of melody-laden electronic dub creating deep bass-heavy rhythms that reel you in slowly and steadily.

[Awake Dub] is their second and unfortunately very limited release of drawn to perfection digital dub music presented to you by Polarlight Recordings. The centre of this album’s universe is the grounding heavy drum 'n' bass line pulsating under the mixing console that results in multiple layers of sounds, echoes, and reverbs of off-beat guitar chords and fragments of vocals. Their funky, moody sampled creation will get your mouth watering for more. So kick back, relax, light up the dutchie, and let your minder wander into the indelible experience that is Caribace.

The tree of life beyond doubt brings the fruit of infinite variety. Glory to Jah and His Kingdom in Zion!

Been really enjoying this one, it strikes me as an excellent translation of a particular roots reggae instrumentals/dub sound (the kind re-released by Blood and Fire) into our time period. Nice electronic work going on, but not to the point of overwhelming the sound. On the other hand, it's not simply old sounds re-created electronically, a pet peeve of mine that I find in a lot of modern dub not coming out of the psytrance/psychill community. Although it's definitely distinct from Red Seal, Kukan Dub Lagan, Sub Oslo, etc., I would strongly recommend it if you like that stuff. Big thumbs up to polarlight.

Favorite tracks:

To get her dubby-longer, darker dub. Somewhat reminiscent of Sub Oslo in its epic feel. There's a lot of tension and suspense in this one.

Awake Dub-acoustic guitar sounds make for a beautiful dub. Extremely well-written.

Brothers Dub-more uptempo and danceable, nice, tastefully restrained guitar melody here and there.

A very solid album overall!
