i got a new pc not a while ago ill tell you what i know,
about the chip i heard that amd are the best for vst instuments and that steinberg recommends them even though im sure that intel work good as whel but also more expensive about ram get at least 512 ram ddr not sddram.
about soundcards i got delta 44 its great for what i need i also hear echo soundcards are great

hmm. I'd recommed intel because it's more stable due to fewer heat problems. There was also some things in the calculation processes that were better in Intel, that affects music making. I admit that amd is faster when playing etc.

Both processors are good though. If you're using VSTis I'd recommed at least 1024MB of RAM.

Make also sure that the harddisk is at least 9000rpm for faster datastorage/recovery. the size is for you to decide.

The soundcard is also one big issue. What do want from it? What do you need from it? There's like piles of good soundcards, it just depends things like do you need a breakout box? are you gonna do the mixing in computer or mixing table? How many I/O you need for audio? How many for midi? that's why i won't recommend any straight ahead. Go look around these topics with search. Theres lots of writings about different sound cards, maybe you find the best fitting for you that way.

if not, specify better what do want from soundcard and then'll try to sort that one out

Ghz is not the only determining factor. Does Logic/Cubase/Nuendo/etc use 64bit/use SSE2?

Serotonot is correct--Intel Wins; for a price but not because of the chip! it is ONLY because Intel quad-pumped the P4 (one chip version) to a 200MhzX4 speed which beats the pants off the AMD FSB However Intel wastes a lot of time and juice on the Northbridge which AMD has cleared up by design of a multichannel snooping mechanism that traps requests before they go out to main memory. But the benchmarks never lie (unless they are coerced)
