everyone can find his/her own answers on those questions.
BTW: not looking forward to this release either. For me Ott`s last album was just too much "catchy" ... but, well "Good luck!"

Dear Mr Ott

Happy new year and hope you and your family have a good year of the rabbit as of Feb 3rd.

Thanks - and to you.

1. Will this be a mixed/flowing album like Blumenkraft or unmixed tracks with a gap like Skylon?

I don't know as I haven't compiled it yet. I much prefer presenting an album as a flowing progression with no gaps and that was the intention with Skylon, but when I came to compile it it became apparent that some of the transitions worked better with gaps. I did make a mixed version but it sounded a bit 'forced'.

Also, I'm aware that a lot of people don't buy full albums, choosing instead to download the individual tracks they like and if the album is compiled as a continuous flow you end up with ugly sudden endings to the tracks, although it has been pointed out to me that people kind of expect that these days and I shouldn't worry about it. I did consider compiling two masters, one for download and one for CD but I don't think I will now for that reason.

2. Will we be able to purchase direct from you or the label?

Yes. You'll be able to buy it directly from my website http://www.ottsonic.net as a download or a CD. It'll also be available on iTunes and all the usual digital outlets.

3. Will it be on Twisted and if not which label?

It won't be on any label. I have decided to release this album myself for a few reasons but mainly because I'm just intrigued to see if and how it works. The facilities to self-release [Bandcamp, Tunecore etc] didn't really exist when I released my last album, or if they did they weren't as mature and established as they are now and I'm keen to investigate 'Music Biz v2.0' to see if it is a viable alternative to the label/distributor model we've had since the 1950s.

I haven't fallen out with Twisted and I still consider them to be my spiritual home. There is every chance that my next record could be released by Twisted. If they liked it, obviously.

Good luck with this and fingers crossed you make it to Australia in this year of the rabbit!

That's largely down to whether Frank Venuto [Rainbow Serpent] likes "Mir" - he's currently the only person I'd sit on a plane for 24 hours for.

Likewise.

Thanks heaps for the open and honest answers, well I'll try to get the ball rolling for RSF 2012

After typing that earlier message I spent the arvo down by the Yarra River, listening to both albums on headphones and kicking back with my book in the sun

I'll be buying the CD on the release date no worries what format you choose, tho i vote one for the mixed journey if it works

Respect and joy to you & your family           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

It's by an Israeli guy called Daniel Philosoph. He emailed me a year ago saying "I listen to your music while I draw..." and sent me some of his artwork. I was completely blown away by it and asked him to design me a cover which he did. In the meantime he allowed me to print out a load of his drawings which I pinned up in my studio.

So, I've been writing the album whilst looking at his drawings and he's been designing the cover whilst listening to my music. A kind-of creative feedback loop.

I think he's a total genius. Some of his work obviously draws from Escher [who I love] in the way he plays with perspective, and there are shades of Geiger in there too [in some of his work] but he also has a very unique style and a sense of humour which I really enjoy.

The drawings he's done for the inside cover are brilliant too.

Amazing to think anybody can do that with just a pencil and paper.

what is the point of a forum if people don't express their opinions?

of course this can run into encounters between humans of the psychopathic variety (talking Reich here) but hey ho that's all part of the rich tapestry of life....and it's certainly amusing to read.

it was specifically about moderators, who - from a scientific point of view - should be neutral, in a forum this - of course - can be handeld differently, since it`s no scientific discourse and the moderator has a different function...
