Hello everyone,

I decided to move to Logic, but since is no PDF documentation, I have a few questions:

1.Can I use VSTi in Logic, or do I have to use plug-ins to convert the VSTi to DXi (such as the Fxpansion plug-in)?

2.Where in Logic can I enable DX or VST effects (what is the parallel menu in Logic to send effects in Cubase)?

3.Where do I define the grid snapping?

Thanks in advance
Tom

hey!

1. - create a folder in the logic folder called vstplugins, whack the .dll's/vsti's in there.

2. - hmmmm... not sure what u mean,
a. - the plug-in enabler in the logic folder will activate/deactivate any dx or vst fx of your choosing...
b. - or in logic double click a channel on the arrange page to bring up the mixer, in the middle of the channel strip, above the volume fader are some boxes, click and hold and itll bring up all available plugs

3. - on the transport there is a little '/16' (i think 16 is the default) click and hold, drag up or down /4 - /192 --- also hold down 'alt' while dragging a file to fine tune position

maybe a little different depending on which version u use

hope this helps!

Hello ppl, Another question:

I get a lot of pops and glitches when playing audio files and VSTi. I played with the buffer size and enabled/disabled the larger disk buffer size option. Nothing.

Any ideas? I'm using a Layla24 with ASIO drivers.

Another thing: How can I permanently save a certain option configuration? For instance, I want to permanently disable external sync. How do I do it?

10x in advance

hey tom,
1)about pops & clicks: check out u use the most recent drivers, and do drivers setup properly.
2) about configuration:
in logic everything is saved into "environment"
environment defines how many audio channels will logic use, which plugs are availible, which drivers u use, how many audio faders u have in the mixer etc.
u need to look on this subject (environment).
it's avery vast subject, not in this forum's space..
try www.logicusers.net and discussion groups in yahoo.

Hey PsyTom, there is a very very big documentation for Logic and some software "Groups"
made it available on the net in form of a text file. (PDF, TXT or something...)
You can find it on some IRC channels.

Anyway,
How is the Echo Layla24?
I Still haven't decided yet between the Layla24, LUNA 2 or the Delta-1010.
What can you say about the card as a user? (goodad)

Well, the Layla24 is a really good card. The recording quality is very high, the compatibility is very good and the out-box looks great :).

*I get 11 ms latency is Cubase with 44.1 khz sample rate (in the the standard buffer size - 1024 sample). The higher you go in sample rate, the lower the latency you get. Of course, you can decrease the buffer size and get 2-3 ms in latency (in 44.1 khz sample rate), but you'll need a strong CPU.

*You can run a few audio progs in parallel, and have use different kind of outputs ( ASIO, MME, DX) but again, you'll need a strong CPU to keep them all running.

*If you're planning to mainly use DX based apps, I wouldn't recommend you this card 'cause I get 60-70 ms latency while using fruity loops, for example, using DX driver.

*You can't use DX apps in parallel to Giga sampler or Giga studio. It doesn't bother me - I'm using ASIO apps only so I can use Giga freely.

*I'm running the Layla24 along side my SB live and i don't encounter any problems.

*The Layla24 doesn't have a connection to CD audio, so you either have an additional sound card that can play CDs, or you can connect the headphones out on the CD to one of the Layla inputs.

*Note: If you choose to buy this card and work in audio only, make sure you have a really strong CPU because the card's DSP doesn't support any plug-ins or virtual instruments - They'll have to relay on your processor only.

Jeez, that's a long post...

Hope I helped
