I'll stick with Ultrabeat. Layered kick drums, importing your own sounds, not even close to the number of the presets that kick synth offers, but I am not willing to pay 150 euros for so many kick presets + don't care since I always start from scratch with every kick I make. And it comes free with Logic.
Cubase users should check out Speakafreaka's psykick synth. That's what he uses and he has some really good ones in his tunes. http://soundcloud.com/martianarts

Longtime producers tend to have a selection of kicks... They know which ones fit and work best on a certain track.
Appart from being abble to create one from the scratch!
I've seen this video:
It's an interesting plugin!
The advantage is the realtime non destructive edits, plus it's visual.
The price is fair imo.

Can't really say if the price is fair or not simply because there are free ones (well you do have to pay for Logic to get Ultrabeat) that do a great job. But then again you really need to know how to program them free ones, so if the preset library has quite a few really great sounding kicks for trance (not very common in preset libraries of drum synths) then the price is ok.
