Thank you willsanquil
Your post helped me alot
I think i will take a closer look at ableton live then. Im pretty confused when creating tracks in reason, all those tools and possibilities, thats not easy without any decent tutorials. But i guess ableton will give me the same tools to work with, and maybe some better tutorials? |

Seriously dude, I had absolutely NO knowledge of music last december. Never touched a CDJ, never played an instrument, never programmed a synth didn't know what Time Signature or BPM meant and within a months time I had my first track. It was a shitty track for sure...but a track nonetheless.
This would not have happened had I not happened upon Tom Cosm's site and watched his tutorials. They are indescribably amazingly good. THE BEST tutorials. He literally opens up ableton and assumes you know NOTHING and builds everything with you from scratch. everything.
It is impossible for me to overstate how life-changing these videos were for me. It was like opening up an entirely new world.

What makes them a little annoying to watch when you do know some stuff cause he over explains lots of things and you have to either watch how he resamples 10 tracks, one by one, or fast forward to later on notice how db_glitch could have done same trick.
Well of course I'm ranting and Tom is great and i have learned some neat tricks there and appreciate his work a lot.
Good for starters I guess.
5 years ago there was pretty hard to find nice video / tutorials for music production, today the net is flooded with so... pretty easy to get the basics nowadays go lurk the web, profit.

Well...the course IS called *introduction* to digital audio production....
db_glitch does not do the same thing because using that software you don't learn NEARLY as much as when you are actaully doing manual audio editing. db_glitch'd tracks sound....like you put db_glitch on them :\
I believe the reason he explains lots of things over is because...he is trying to teach concepts to people who are learning and idk about you but I don't always get everything the first time. Especially in audio production I have had the experience multiple times where it will take a certain way of explaining something for it to actually click.

Yes, no disrespect whatsoever for Tom or his work... i just specified it is mostly for beginners and the db_glitch was just blah blah not saying it is the same than choppin waves... i just wished he edited the videos a little so you don't have to run the whole "i'm now gonna create 72 send buses and link them through several chain fx" show all along.
Even for beginners the videos can be a little redundant and well, i mean those are videos one can rewind as much as wanted to understand something... but i'm sure you must be thinking: you can also fast forward xD so now, i'm shutting up.

Haha I will freely admit to getting a bit sleepy the first couple times going through Tom's videos. It's a lot of information to take in. Another thing I got sort of stuck on...I was obsessed for a bit with following everything in the video exactly and I was frustrated when the sound in the video didn't match the sound from my Ableton. Don't sweat it. Also in the first video, I think he neglects to properly explain that he changed the "sustain" value of the Analog instrument he is working in. So if you're going through the video and you're like WTF my sound won't keep going when I hold the keyboard down but his does....that's why.
On a sort of unrelated note...another reason to go with Ableton...you could benefit from (and possibly contribute to) the Ableton 8 Specific Psy Tricks thread

Hi there !
I made my first track in reson, pretty basic
If anyone could help find a way to upload it to the topic it would be great. Its a pretty basic track, but what else could you expect from a newb. It would just be cool with some different opinions on the track. Btw its the first track i've ever made in reason.

register at soundcloout, upload it there and post the link here (or the embedded player).
or you just zip/rar it up and upload it to one of those filehosters (megaupload, sendspace, reapidshare....and thousands of others).
I would prefer the first method though, If you will make more tunes in the future, soundcloud is a great way of making them public and getting feedback.
