Hi there
I have always been interested about making my own psytrance, especially darkpsy and fullon.

So i just want to know how you got started?

I am using reson 5, and im waiting for my reason 5 tutorial DVD, and i hope ill learn the basics through the dvd.
So by now i spend my time on tutorials on the internet.

i have no musical experience at all, cant even play a instrument. But is that a must?

How did you get started? thanks in advance

if you want to produce "electronic music" (whatever that is Electro-House, or Darkpsy), remember that before the electronic comes to music.

Study music theory
this is my tip.

Hey there!
If you wanna know how i got started, i'm jusg onna go straight on telling u i began with Reason 4 and downloaded the Psycrafter vol 1 and 2 because of the FX pack that comes for malström, epic is epic, lots of nice squelchy sounds in there.

I found some presets to work from when it comes to the bass
used the kicks from psycrafter, contains many nice ones....
between all the shitty samples -.- ...

but yeah... be sure to check out boyinaband on youtube
very nice tutorial videos.            http://soundcloud.com/li-fe

music theory is a must but being a "musician" isnt necessarily..imo it takes more of a composer's mindset, very different from that of a musician's

Music theory is something that helps me a lot, but i don't think that it's à must.

A good way to start is to install a sequencer (Acid is a good choice for beginner imho), download some sample packs and mess around...

Then get some VST plugins and try to make your own sounds.

Start learning all the tools (DAW, plugins, synth and whatever), search for some psy DAW tricks/sounds/presets, get as much music knowledge you can as there is always something good to know (music theory and music harmony really helps) and practice! Have the kick peak at -3, the bass around -4,5 (thats the level that mastering engineers want), sidechain them and adjusting the volumes of the other channels with compressors/EQ so to avoid peaks on master channel!

I started with reason 4 and i printed out the whole manual and read it then through a shit load of tutorials on it, but i was still making some fucked up shit, it wasent until i learned the shit out of music theory that i began to see progress in my work, so learn music theory......also learn synthesis theory ie. how to work a synth, also composing theory, and you can also study alot of mozart, betoven and bach I mean you actually have to download the music sheets and recreate them in your daw and that will get you started and the most important thing is to not give up because it takes years of knowledge and practice....so get started!!!!!

imo get Ableton live, then go to Tom Cosm's website and watch his Introduction to Digital Audio Production series - you can watch the first hour for free (just google Vimeo +Tom Cosm - the link is on the 3rd page I think) and he assumes you know NOTHING about music, synthesis, production...and builds an entire track with you from scratch

100000000% better than anything else I've found on the internet in terms of tutorials. That includes courses that are 5-10x the cost of his $10/month subscription.

Plus Ableton is the fuckin future.

Read all the isra "mother of" threads. go to psymusic.co.uk and find everything written by Speakafreaka and Faction. Buy a book on music theory, read it, be confused for a while read it again be less confused rinse and repeat

Don't download sample packs of FX and shit! Learn to make them yourself.

take your time - if you have no musical knowledge at all expect for it to take a year or two until you have a good enough grasp of all the concepts to make something decent

good luck, its a fun ride!            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

IMO don't hop from DAW to DAW - stick with one, learn it well. Ableton has a very low learning curve but a lot of depth...especially compared to Cubase and Logic, in my experience.

Oh, forgot to mention the most important thing - DONT DOWNLOAD A WHOLE SHITLOAD OF CRACKED VSTS!!! if you must, download just a couple and learn them really well. Shit, if I was starting all over again I'd just learn Ableton's Operator/Analog and nothing else until I knew them inside out then I'd get some better software

Preset browsing is creative death.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

i also was guilty of this common beginner mistake, so i'll wholeheartly agree with this advice.

if your sounds are shitty, no new softsynth will correct that problem. only knowing your tools inside out, pratice and knowledge about synthesis will help.
