<shrugs> It's true, I'm a melodic writer with my musical roots in the 1980s, and I feel dance music is at its best when it makes one smile, so it's understandable if some people think that occasionally results in a bit of cheese That's never the aim, though. And I wasn't defending any track in particular, rather this thread as a whole where people can make suggestions of neo-goa tracks which they find something new in, without one person constantly telling people they're wrong to hold the opinions they do. Check out Page 2.
But of course this is just my perception and might well not correspond to how others view this thread. And maybe - like Kristian - I myself should also be expressing myself in terms that make it clear that if your taste differs from mine - the great expert - you're wrong. It's summed up for me like this:

I would fundamentally disagree. There is no 'good' or 'bad' in matters of music, there is only music you like, or do not like. And if you don't like it, you really don't have to keep on telling us.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

It's obvious that I mean IMO IMO IMO. So don't twist things Colin!

And by the way I'll do exactly what I want and I really do not care if you get irritated over me expressing my opinion (Could it be it's because I did not praise a band you recommended?). I explained to you that I was asked my opinion by two people here and I replied politely with examples and also added some constructive criticism. But you seem to ignore that FACT

What did you participate with in this debate except for a grumpy "Teacher" attitude?

[OT] Speaking about smiles and the 80s influence,
that sample about the ruckus (ends with "Can you describe this ruckus, sir?") - is that from "The Breakfast Club"?

i don t know any of these goa artists but enjoyed the tunes, what i don't like much is the production for 2010/2011 sound, if it was sounding better it would be a lot more popular i m sure.

It seems there is always some confusion in these discussions of new school Goa trance. Are we examining whether the music is good, original, or both? Are these qualities not highly subjective? Even originality: just how original does the music need to be? Is there room for music that is very good but not at all original?

In my view, few cultural goods are truly original. Most are highly derivative, but this does not mean they are without value.

Quote:
"Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to."

Is this not fantastic? Who cares if it lacks originality? It is completely authentic in my view. Kiriyama has done justice to the style of the old school masters.

The only real answer to this debate which doesn't do violence to either creators or listeners of this (or any other) kind of music is that we should let the artists create as they are moved to do so, and thereafter we should take from their creations what there is in it for us. As listeners, we have no right to influence the direction or form of an artist's output, and any disappointment we feel with the output of an artist or even an entire scene is far more to do with our own inappropriate expectations. Change is inevitable, how we deal with it is the only thing we inddividually have any control over. IMO.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

@ Colin

I agree BUT I also feel there is a huge fear for criticism in this scene. Point is that those who listen has every right to express their opinion (positive or negative). If an artist cant deal with criticism then dont release music.

No one ever told anyone how to make their music here. We only express our opinion and some seem to take it very personal.

I agree. But my "problem" and critique is exactly that there is no change in this scene (Neo Goa). IMO it's just repetition of what once was.          www.beatagency.dk
