Hey guys, this is a new track I've just finished. It's influenced by Materia, Brainiac, Intelligence, Plasmotek, Attik and Braincell. The overall influence is from the game Abe's Odyssey.
I was going for a slightly darker night full-on sound, but ended up changing direction in the middle. I think that this does not make this tune very playable, but makes for an interesting listen at least.. I tried something different for the main breakdown and drop towards the end of the song, so let me know what you guys think.

those snare are too fuckin loud , the synths u created for the dolphin and the synths that gives the goa feelin s very cool..but obviously the track s all bout those synths so that shows u are just startin ....the bassline sux coz it s the same bassline used all over again for years and as u can see if u listen to the workshop tracks 75 per cent will have that same bassline... = thats bad coz it s just one more fish in the sea...not realy a dolphin...
anyway sounds like u are just startin... good lucky in ur way...

Thanks for the replies
@Nomad Moon: Thanks! There is this cool little synth from U-he called Zebralette which is great for making those sort of sounds.
@Blueball: Yeah the track is really about the synths - what I'm going for is division between synths of a rhythm based melody, as to have some sort of melodic progression without having leads.
For the snare, I like it to have this punchiness for this track, especially for the later section, because it is all halftimed (on every 3rd kick, instead of 2 and 4).
For the bassline, I've chosen to do it this way because that's what I like, and until I find something that I like more, I'm not going to change it just for the sake of doing something different. I think it's easy to fall into the trap of experimenting and forgetting about sounding good, it's hard to get the balance right.
I understand where you are coming from, but I'm not going to change these aspects, because I've done it this way on purpose.
That middle section was my favorite synth wise, but the bass just sat around and sort of pulled back from the drive, being a minimal section the bass sound is uncovered a lot more, if it was moving around as well that section would be down right intense.

Replies like the blueball's one reaaaalllyyyy piss me off ,is has if when you're on the dancefloor u're thinking about stuff like this bass is not a real breakthrough! Keep it up bro! amazing track
hey man this sounds fun. Some cool ideas for sure.
When that fade out starts at 2:30, I feel like that pad being so long and static would make people want to stop dancing, so i would change that up a bit. - heh just read what you wrote, so i understand. Since I've been partying more, my head has been there more, but if you wanted to add something in there to make it better for dancing out you could try an arp over the top. I don't know if that would ruin the vibe you have though. It would have to be an interesting sound.
But yeah through the headphones, I dig the stabs and hits and overall sound.
This blueball guy is funny - your bassline is too generic. Everyone making psy should stop the rolling note basslines haha. The snare could be high I suppose, hard to tell completely in headphones, or maybe it's just too snappy/too many high freq. If you have an envelope shaper, sometimes you can use it to lower the attack volume of the sample.
Wow this is a long thing I'm writing. I'd like to hear you do more crazy things. Like your sound is tight, you should explore more with melodies and go off on tangents to twist it up. I think that's an area you can work on. Finding yourself more in that headspace. I think you understand what I mean.

Awesome thanks for the replies guys! The suggestions are right on, that's what I was really thinking as well, but in the end it came down to not being able to find the sounds to put in to make it more diverse and interesting. Every sound I thought of seemed to take away from the overall vibe of it. I just need to work more on controlling my synths really.
You know when you spend ages looking for a sound, and realize that you're pretty much going nowhere? I think sometimes you just need to take what you learned from that tune, and move on and apply it to the next song.
@Obelizk: Awesome reply, thanks for that! Last paragraph especially. I hadn't quite decided on where to go with the sound, and that just really clicked when I read it. Like my sub-conscious mind hadn't quite pieced it together, and then bang! the answers there! haha

Also, in regards to the partying: that's the most important part! You have to go to the parties and experience them and DJ at them before you can really understand this music, and what people like to hear. I think lots of people forget that. Every time I play at a party, I understand more and more what tracks work and why.

The music doesn't just come from the studio to the dance floor, it comes from experiencing and understanding the party first. IMO (may not apply in everyones case)
