Hey, I'm a recent inductee into the scene (first party was Pisces, and then Gemini--which was effin' awesome) and I'm looking to get started on a serious collection of tracks.
I like most psytrance in general but there are a couple sounds that I really love and am having trouble finding:
Dark psytrance that doesn't use super-clean drums. I could use a dirtier, punchier kickdrum (I listen to a lot of techno), and some more drum noise in general would be good, even if it means taking a couple notes away from the bassline.
Something with a really warm continuous lead and/or bassline, maybe with some sidechain compression or LFO. Not even for the whole song, maybe just during a breakdown. It seems hard to find psytrance (that isn't prog) where everything isn't staccatto. The class of things I'm thinking about here includes stuff like a Justice-style lead or a dnb-style bassline but it's more general than that. This really seems like something that's missing from modern psy compared to oldschool goa.
Sorry if I'm not making too much sense, kind of tired right now. Looking forward to acquiring hella new music and making hella new friends

first i will say you check old stuf:
hallucinogen, spirallianz, olod infected mushroom, dark soho, sun project, analog pussy, juno reactor...
Then when you start listening to newer stuff you will know what is fresh and is indeed inovative. |
