At last, here it is. The new Etnica cd "Sharp", announced more and more times, will be finally out on November.

Personally i think this cd will create lots of different reactions, as always happened on any recent Etnica release.

1) The old-style fans, tied to the past, won't be able to recognize their beloved group among these tracks and will surely disapprove the cd.
2) The new-full-on fans won't find any tracks in this kind of genre
3) The minimalistic and tech-trance fans, who loved partially Nitrox and Chrome, will face another style ("damn, another one ?!").

So what ?

Surely another transitional Etnica style cd.

Can we speak about a "chameleontic" group ? or a "still-searching-for-an-identity" group ?

You decide!

"Sharp" cd is composed by different styles, showing us Mauri's effort to bring some fresh elements on previous style.

01. AUTOMATIK
Featuring Wayann, starts quite melodic, then it proceedes with the style the duo has presented
us recently in their compilations tracks. In the middle a sort of melodic arpeggio starts a classic
3-notes variation of Eurotrance memory: female voice sample, euro-synth sounds, etc.
Just a one minute flash, then it return to new Etnica style as before.

02. INNER SPACE (Live Mix)
A good track imho. Do you remember the Pleiadians tracks "inner space" ? Well, quite another
track ("phew!" i'd add . It maintains the original beat but this time Mauri has introduced lots of
layers, including special effects (the classic U.F.O sound of Comm. Straker's memory), grooving
acid lines, a good bassline, fat chords. Quite funny to dance, i admit. The acidistic line
recalls something of Melicia's "Sea Master".

03. EROS
This is a totally new entry, not present on the promo. Never heard it. I hope it's not a rejected
track renamed. ;P

04. MACHINE
It starts with a good melody loop, used previously in a unreleased new Pleiadians track. Then it
continues quite tech-minimal (a la "Seven", or "Seven Dust") with ghosty fragments of melodies.
Towards the end it becomes a bit more melodic.

05. PLANET X
This is my preferred track. A good bassline sound (on hearing it, my mind flies to "Spheric
Koncept", but a bit... a little bit). Then the usual Kraftwerk tribute the duo has abituated us,
with short samples from "Home Computer". Some acidistic distorted lines makes the groove.
Then the surprise: on half of it a great synth sound makes a melody over and over played with
the groovy bassdrum of Etnica fame.. over and over... then you find yourself move your head in
time, while the melody shows little tiny variations. And towards the end a change in the melody,
another one ("wow! how many melodies" . A good choice for dance

06. B.A.S.
A return to Chrome planet. With those darky and technoid synth and beats, it reminds me "Are
we safe?". The hard edge of Etnica! (ps- dunno about B.A.S. meaning)

07. SHARP
A strange and controversial track, expecially because it gives the CD name, so we expect great
purposes from it. But it starts minimal, and it continues so for some minutes, letting us wondering
why they have used it as main track! But exactly on half of it, a blopped melody ("blopped" ??
starts just for a couple of minutes. Then it returns minimal. Mmmhhh... nope! not the best track
on this cd, for me.

08. PHOTONIC
New Etnica on their best! Oh well, what damn else can i write about this tracks ? Surely the
most loved and melodic track by Etnica since Alien Protein, the gem of new Pleiadians cd and
released as Etnica. And even after having listened to it since 2 years, it maintains his freshness,
expecially for the "nervous" synth-chords. Is seems this track has nothing to do with the whole
album: like a surprise or a gift.

09. FADE
Mauri slow down the tempo and offers us an extremely well-done remix of the 80's big hit "Fade
to Grey" (do you remember of Visage ? . Not a clone track, but a real remix. This one has a
good arpeggiated melody running in loop over the recognizable bass melody and original samples.
Another preferred track of mine.

Conclusion: surely the best Etnica cd since Nitrox, with tracks easily identifiable one from the other,
due to a sort of melody resurrection. Not enough for old-style lovers, but give Mauri time to grow.
He's doing its best and this time i think they have reached one goal.

@psymetal

well, i have written it dozens of time.

Old Etnica style was mainly created by Andrea Rizzo and Carlo Paterno.
Because these two artists left the group, Mauri & Max had to start exactly from the beginning.
Slowly, slowly, but incessantly growing

@every1

On saikosounds site the cd will be available on 22 Nov. I'll do a Xmas gift to myself

I for one am looking forward to this album! Been a great fan for years, regardless whether their style has changed or not. They have made good productions, it shouldnt change the quality!           :: Life can be as bitter as dragon tears
But whether dragon tears are bitter or sweet
depends entirely on how each man perceives the taste ::

I've been hanging out for this one for awhile as i think their Chrome album cuts sick...Probably my fav of all time...
Sharp has been on PSYSHOP's coming soon list for about 1 month now and everytime i check Saikosounds upcoming releases i notice it gets pushed back further. It has gone from a 6th December release to 19th Jan 2005...i think.

Any idea's when it will be available from PSYSHOP?
I've been told it's available from the Soltice23 website but i choose to go with PSYSHOP as they have far superior international shipping to Australia...THANKS PSYSHOP CREW!
