awesome stuff bluetech!!
I already liked very much Prima materia + Elementary Particles.. but this one, it gets even better..
it sounds more mature somehow..
So visual tracks.. I was thinking of doing some bigger review, maybe I will sometime..
some tracks you feel like in a beach, sometimes underwater, sometimes you imagine some some bugs, mosquitoes, forest animals... other times its like you are flying with some funny baloons..
the melodies are so great, so well thought out..
and that funky beat bass style that bluetech makes
I love this cd.. definitely a must buy

Here's my review of it this interesting piece... 
From North America's westcoast comes the music who resides on the fourth release from the israeli label Aleph Zero Records. The package's sender is no one less than Bluetech, who's previously released a fullength album on well-respected Waveform Records and a special edition of "Elementary Particals / Prima Materia" on Aleph Zero Records. After been touring with Ambient Alchemy Tour, a tour Bluetech's been involved in and that has been going on for three years now, Bluetech's now hot with his new album "Sines And Singularities".
Well, let's tune in together with the CD.
01 – Enter The Lovely (08:10)
The first track's a cosy tale who's in a kind of playful way moving forward in quite moderated environments. There's no ambient-welcoming here, as things are moving from the very beginning. Despite that the track is so moderated in general it is still easy to identify it as a Bluetech-delivery. There's some kind of Bluetech atmosphere that fills the room up as soon as the disc starts to spin in the stereo. This track is casted upon a slight monotone bassline and there's not too much melodies that's accompanying us, but more typical dub-elements and sweet atmospheres.
02 – Condensation (06:08)
The movement's vibrations continues into the second track and I'm afraid that there's a lead here who really bites my eardrums. It's just the sound itself that makes me walk on the walls, a bit like hearing styrofoam being rubbed towards cardboard or something like it. With exception for this sound, who's being exposed during two sessions in the track, I experience the soundimage as quite moderated. There's a couple of elements that I find appealing, especially a melody about four minutes into the track who's really sweet like candy.
03 – Leaving Winter Behind (07:56)
The CD's third ingredience evidently raises the flag of "loop-till-destruction-warning". We're brought on an atmospherical, intense and strong journey who really makes one forget the snow who's whirling outside the window. This track is intelligent and I find myself having a hard time to categorize this track by style, as this track has some good from everywhere and the whole picture is definitely something I enjoy. The keyword here would be "strong", as that's what this experience is.
04 – Forgiveness (07:54)
The movements are being slowed down a bit and the track feels very connected to its title. A veil of melancholy rests over the track and we're slowly moving through atmospherical environments. Anyone who's previously made acquiantance with Bluetech's more melancholy excursions would definitely find him or herself a companion and friend here. This track has previously been released on the compilation "Mutiple Organisms" from Nice Dreams Music (Spun Records chillout-divison).
05 – Shulman – First Came The Stars (Bluetech Remix) (08:17)
Here Bluetech takes a take on remixing Shulman's masterpiece from the debutalbum "Soundscapes And Modern Tales", and the result turned out to be very interesting. I have to admit that at first seight I was a bit worried about the result as I look at both Shulman albums nearly as something "holy", but the result didn't turn out to be something bad after all. It's a good balance between the added elements by Bluetech and the elements from the original, and if one tries to remix a track of this calibre I think one can't perform much better than this. By judging the text above, perhaps it is evident that I still keep the original closer to my heart.
06 – Pitch Black – Ape To Angel (Bluetech’s Evolution Remix) (07:19)
First of all I'd like to admit that I can't remember myself hearing the original recording as I'm not especially into Pitch Black's sound so I can't compare the remix with the original so I will just experience the track "as it is". As whole it feels like a quite floaty dream with beautiful melodies and there's some very special elements here that makes me go spellbound. An excellent track to study to for exams according to myself as it doesn't neccessary require too much of concentration and focus from the listener - but - worth to mention is that if you choose to concentrate yourself on the track and have a real dive into the track here one can definitely get a taste of Bluetech's intelligent music expression.
07 – Airstream (07:06)
This track does also melt perfectly in the background and really chills the muscles, but it can as well be adjusted to become an intelligent journey if one choose to give it focus and concentration. Again I think Bluetech gives a solid example of the sound picture I often associate with him: a some what of melancholy but yet hopefulness - everything woven into atmospherical soundscapes. This is a track that I think can be experienced differently from time to time depending on what the listener wants to get from the track from the moment. To create such tales is something Bluetech's a master at.
08 – Dreamtime Lullaby (07:34)
More intelligent music follows and it feels like the time stands still; all perception of time, room, season and location are like gone with the wind. This track, who stretches over a time of about seven and a half minute, feels like it's one hour but at the same time one minute. A floaty journey who follows a path of cosy beats and interesting environments.
09 – Shimmer (07:29)
With the lat part of the CD ahead of us we're tuning in to Shimmer and I definitely think that it is once again time to raise the flag of "loop-till-destruction-warning". This track is really emotional with a lot of superb details, sweet dreamy atmospheres and tasty melodies. Bluetech himself wishes that the music he's spreading should have a healing effect on the listener, and I'm not late admiting that he's superbly succeeded here.
10 – Wilderness (07:11)
The thoughts are redirected to the album "Prima Materia" by a reason I can't identify, perhaps it is the atmosphere and the melancholy covering the track's resting in. During the track's latter part some elements are developed and resurrects some kind of hopefulness in me and once again I feel myself being cradled in Bluetech's environments.
11 – A Garland Of Stars (03:05)
The disc's final comes with cello by Rena Jones and a great dose of warmth. A track like this makes summerlovers, like me, to forget that the winter's residing outside and once again I have to point out and give light to the feeling of hopefulness that's moving with the music. Perhaps it is this feeling of hopefulness that is the healing process?
Summary
With cosy beats, lovely melodies, intelligent elements and beautiful atmospheres this album has a capacity of produce different feelings within the listener, depending on what the listener wishes for. If you wish to enjoy intelligent IDM/dub and that is what you're looking for you have hit the spot, and if you wish and look for an album who's suitable for exam studies (tested and approved!) or other activites where the album's just going to spin in the background this CD is going to be well suitable for the purpose. This album is difficult to compare with the previous two, who are in my humble opinion a bit more like each other than this one are to them. One thing is clear though, and that is that this album quickly grew to become my favorite album from Bluetech.
Favorites: 3(!!), 7, 9(!) and 11.

This just gets better with every listen ! Favoutites so far are :
1) Enter the Lovely - lovely indeed... smooth sliding, sexy, cosy stuff - skips along nicely, quite an interesting lounge/house vibe created with subtle, soothing themes
5) Shulman - First Came The Stars (Bluetech mix): I'm not really a Shulman fan (sorry!) but I love this Bluetech mix - the distinctive style and flavour of Evan's skills weave their way through this beauty of a track, a magical beaming atmosphere unfolds as we progresses towards its sparkling finale...
6) Pitch Black - Ape To Angel (Bluetech rmx) : I only recently picked up the Ape To Angel album so I can't really compare this to the original but this is another perfect example of why I love Evan's sound. Gentle , mesmerizing patterns curl around you , whispering calmness and peace , very healing , it's not quite dub but we get some lovely echoed delays of sounds that meander off into the distance and then return into the mix. Very enchanting atmospheres again.
7) Airstream : I love this tune!!! We really are taken on a ride through the solar system with this one, incredible, sizzling, noodling synth craziness, this tune is a pefect balance between mystcial and familiar, outer and inner solar systems - for sure one of my favourite Bluetech tunes to date 
8) Dreamtime lullaby : More of the new shiney progressive/house sound that lays down a subtle dreaming groove , imaginative cycling layers, breathing chilled energy and
peace to all who dance and sleep under its spell ...
9) Shimmer : Picks up the eclectic vibrations and worldy weirdness of deep inner meditations, a melancholic antidote to human life and all that lays beyond, perhaps there is everlasting peace behind our dreams after all ...
I have to say - I'm not surprised by the standard of the tunes on offer here, Evan has really impressed me in the past, with perhaps some of the most delicious, drifting, healing music I have ever heard. I'm sure this album is going to inspire and relax many chillout seekers everywhere from Berlin to Birmingham, Dakar to Didcot, so go get yourself a copy !

Mercurial downbeat…
American producer Evan ‘Bluetech’ Marc has gained worldwide recognition for his atmospheric, eclectic downtempo creations… His first two albums were widely praised – and for the most part I liked both of them… That being said, I must also say, that I don’t like everything this guy has released… Certain stuff seems to lack depth and sometimes I’ve found myself more than just a little bored when listening to Bluetech ambient… But hey, as I say, I like most of his stuff, and I’ve eagerly been awaiting this third album… After all, this is released on AlephZero which has fast become one of the leading outlets for high quality downbeat music…
Let me take you thru the tracks…
#01: Bluetech - Enter The Lovely
Enter the pleasure dome! This album starts exactly where Elementary Particles left off, with slow progressing, floating downbeat… Starts as ambient, but soon evolves into faster, trippier chill-out… The trademark Bluetech ‘digital singing’ is also present here… Lovely indeed!
#02: Bluetech – Condensation
Condensation means a billion different things… In physics it’s the process by which a vapour changes to a liquid… Or in psychology, the process by which a single symbol or word is associated with the emotional content of several, not necessarily related, ideas, feelings, memories, or impulses… Like when you’re dreaming! And I chose to interpret this, as the soundtrack to a lucid dream… Fragmented, dubby beats are accompanied by syncopated, high-pitched synth stabs, creating an epic, yet head-bounce friendly melody… It may sound simple at first, but give this some time to sink in, and you’re in for a treat… Sweet track!
#03: Bluetech – Leaving Winter Behind
I’m sure philosophers would have a field day trying to decipher the meaning behind the track title here, but I choose simply to see it as an ode to the spring… And oh my, what an ode! This is quite simply beautifully constructed music… On one hand it reminds me of the great works of Eno or Schulze and on the other hand, it reminds me of Aes Dana or Solar Fields… Soothing, floating, beautiful ambient… Amazing track!
#04: Bluetech – Forgiveness
Whereas the previous track was all about leaving the cold winter behind, this track feels much more winter-like… Arctic even! Icy-cold ambient – with the chill factor approaching minus 30 degrees Celsius… And this is where I start to loose interest – I mean, it’s not bad at all, but the lack of depth gets to me…
#05: Shulman – First Came The Stars (Bluetech Remix)
This track was originally on the first Shulman album Soundscapes And Modern Tales… A magnificent track and I’m happy to say that Bluetech treats it with the respect it deserves... A harmonic piece which pays tribute to the original, but still adding enough new flavour… I like the distinct psychedelic edge here… The original is a timeless masterpiece, and this remix is also pretty sweet, though it seems to loose a little direction towards the end… But nicey nice nevertheless!
#06: Pitch Black – Ape To Angel (Bluetech’s Evolution Remix)
Another remix here… This time the original was made by the Kiwi duo Pitch Black… I haven’t heard that one, so I can’t really tell you what was changed… What I can tell you though, is that this track is more on the experimental side of things – with rich electro and dub influences – and even some cut breakz&beats… Reminiscent of the latest Solar Field’s album in some parts… A very mature and somewhat introvert track that requires a lot of listens before really sinking in… Pretty good, but I don’t consider it, a stand-out track…
#07: Bluetech – Airstream
This track is easily more upbeat, though still with an edgy, mature held-back feel to it… Experimental to say the least – downtempo music with EDM influences all over the place… Spacy at times, inner city-street wise at others… Fragmented and complex – joyous and melancholy… All at the same time! Descriptions that would normally be contradictory, but it’s a different story with Bluetech… As with the previous track, this took me quite a while to feel comfortable with, but when it finally dissolves it’s really powerful… I wouldn’t mind if it was twice as long though!
#08: Bluetech – Dreamtime Lullaby
And now it’s time for a lullaby… A deep, dubby Bluetech lullaby! Progressing at an impressive pace, this track is essentially up-tempo ambient with a dreamy touch… Too fast for sleeping though, but for wake walking through lucid dreams, I’m sure this is a welcome companion…
#09: Bluetech – Shimmer
And now we’re digging even deeper… This is maybe the deepest track here, with ultra low frequencies and a very ganja-friendly bite… Multilayered and rich in texture, this is easily one of the most complex tracks here, but despite repeated listens I cannot seem to fully connect to it… It has amazing parts, but also too many muzak parts… What a shame!
#10: Bluetech – Wilderness
But I do not disappear, as Wilderness is another masterpiece! Oh yes, gone are the grimmest, introvert excursions – and we’re left with an uplifting, majestic piece of soothing, melodic ambient…Just the way I like it… Trademark Bluetech – in all its glory! One of the best tracks here…
#11: Bluetech – A Garland Of Stars
On the closing outro track, Evan is joined by Rena Jones on cello… And oh my, what wonderful music this is – sounds like a psychedelic version of something off the LOTR-soundtrack… Simply beautiful… It’s a shame is so short!
The hype surrounding this album was immense… And to some extend, I understand that – this is indeed a wonderful, unique album… Evan Bluetech’s music is as inimitable as it is unparalleled… And that’s really rare in this kind of music! Also, it’s very refreshing to experience a downbeat album that isn’t riddled with voice-samples… So in that sense, this album is indeed one of the most original released in 2005 – but that’s not the same as saying it’s among the best! It’s not! Some reviewers have dubbed this the album of the year – and called it the best thing since sliced bread... I’m going to have to disagree with that… It’s good, it’s even very good – but not *that* good…
I’m fully aware, that this is a mature album that requires several listens to really sink in… Very much so, and the listener is instantly rewarded after doing so, but I still think parts of this are too much like elevator music… Dare I say the b-word – boring? Yes, I dared… I know, this might be sacrilege to some people, but that’s how I feel… That being said let me also stress that the good tracks here are VERY good… And I’ve even rated half the tracks as favourites! I just wish the whole album was like that…
The artwork is top drawer as always with AlephZero – and the mastering by Shulman sounds absolutely top notch to me too… The whole package! Anyway, a very mature album by Bluetech here – that’s guaranteed to suit the taste of a wide array of people within ambient/downtempo circles… Enjoy!

Boring? Elevator music? This is so much deeper than the first and second releases! It's more subtle and monotone but has tons of power in atmosphere and feeling that the more "exciting" shpongle-clone stuff I keep hearing is lacking...
It's tons more psychedelic- it just needs more work from the mind.
I say way to go Bluetech for venturing to new realms- this is the best 13Euro I spent on CD on 2005! |

Here's my review...
This is my favorite release of 2005, I think, even though we had to wait more than 11 months for it to come to us.
Bluetech is a favorite artist of mine since I stumbled on Prayers for Rain on that Interchill compilation. I then both Prima Matria from waveform and then Elementary Particles & Prima Materia from Aleph Zero. I could feel the progress of the music in these albums and the coming out of the Blutech sound.
When this album came I bought it at once without even checking things out (don't do that anymore usually). And been having amazing time with it for more than a month now.
This is Bluetech all the way. That optimistic melancholy, that warm yet cooling sound, and most of all that so special atmosphere and the work between the sounds.
This album needs more of the listener- everything is more delicate, more monotone, more demanding of patience. And it pays. I've really got close to overplaying this CD but never can get there.
Amazing tracks: Condensation, Leave Winter Behind, Pitch Black remix, Shulman remix, Airstream.
Very good tracks: Enter the Lovely, Shimmer, Garland of Stars, Dreamtime Lullaby.
Good track: Forgiveness, Wilderness.
Some of my psychill shpongle friends also got bored of it like deathposture, but that's because they're senses are overloaded and have been bombarded blunt. To them I recommended a day of silence or outdoors and then a spliff and to bed with this album. 2 tried and it worked!!!
This CD is a must have- your life is all ahead of you, you'll enjoy it as a companion for many years. |
